This is the only version of Pride and Prejudice worth watching so far, and I can't imagine it being bettered. The casting of the actors is perfect, the writing is as true to the book as is possible and it has been immaculately researched, resulting in excellent, believable sets and locations. Don't waste your money on Hollywood productions. This is produced by Sue Birtwhistle, also responsible for Cranford. That should say it all.

Thought I'd have a quick peep when it dropped on my doormat, ended up watching all six episodes in the same day! Can't wait to watch the second series.

A great series that thankfully doesn't fall into the obvious sit com scenarios that you think it's going to.

Watching this exquisitely funny and painfully true parade of suburban nightmares, I realised that I had met at least six 'Beverleys'. I had encountered the same pretentious, insensitive, overbearing, condescending and brutish mannerisms. Alison Steadman embodies the lot; an eyeball-searing vision in orange nylon with a voice that can scape wax out of your inner ear!

For much of the play, I laughed at Beverley's indulgent glee in 'welcoming' her guests and hectoring her husband. For the last twenty minutes, I was holding my hands to my face and muttering 'God, no! God, please no!' at every ghastly verbal brickbat and physical impasse. It makes me wonder if Ricky Gervais and his 'Office' crew had this on a loop. David Brent's manners seem ... Read More:

I bought this thinking it would be of a similar standard to 'Jam And Jerusalem'...and was I disappointed. I could not get passed the first episode with its mediocre, predictable jokes and loud canned laughter. You needed to latter to indicate when it was supposed to be funny. A cross between 'Absolutely Fabulous' and 'Black Adder', it had the charm of neither. What a disappointment! Unlike the other reviewers, I think the public had it right when they canned this one.
I had not seen this before but, as it was cheap, decided to take a punt. I can remember a 'French and Saunders' skit where they ridiculed canned laughter and so why did they cynically put it in all their subsequent series except 'Jam and Jerusalem'. It is not needed.

The Singing Detective is certainly one of the best things ever to be seen on TV. It certainly caused a stir in the UK at the time because of its explicit treatment of sexuality. The story certainly is multi layered and fascinating and the acting is superb down to really minor characters. Usually the success is attributed to Potters's writing. When you read the screenplay which was published by Faber & Faber you certainly read an interesting story (although somewhat influenced by DH Lawrence) but you are not as overwhelmed as you are when seeing it on screen. So from my point of view The Singing Detective is at least as much the product of Jon Amiel and the mesmerizing pictures he creates plus his direction of actors. I find it amazing that the beautiful Alison ... Read More:

Fun. raunchy and enjoyable entertainment. The cast obviously had a ball playing it. Isn't that what this type of D.V.D is all about.? The scenery and costumes were a dream and so subtle. I had a very happy evening watching this.

P'Tang Yang Kipperbang is one of those movies you see by chance that stay with you for a long time, at least it was for me.
The story is based around Jack Duckworth (sometimes referred to by his nickname 'quack quack'). Jack has a crush on a female classmates, some events occur that result in his teacher punishing him by assigning him as one of the leads in the school play, in this role he must kiss his crush.
It is essentially a comiing-of-age story, first love & the frustration of it.
The main aspect of the movie is learning the difference between dreams & reality & that fulfilling those dreams doesn't always equal happiness (e.g the grass is always greener mentality).
Jack is likable as the anti-hero, by the end of the film he has ... Read More:

That's what this film is. I say small only because the whole subject is small - a small suburban family's daily existence. But from the moment they open their front door to us, we are reminded how extraordinary normal everyday families can be. The tone is bitingly satirical as it sends up some of the odder urban steroetypes of modern times. Without giving away these superb characters, Spall and Horrocks are hysterical and worryingly good in their roles. The Horrocks character in particular is a gem and is the real centrepiece around which this brilliantly crafted film rotates. I haven't seen a sharper or more satirical movie about British family life than this. Leigh at his best.

This film makes me laugh as much today as it did in 1986! It's good old light-hearted farce from beginning to end.

Mr. Stimpson (Cleese) is Head Teacher of a comprehensive school and a stickler for time-keeping. When he's invited to address the annual Head Teachers' Conference in Norwich, he times his journey to the millisecond - then everything that can go wrong goes wrong! He boards the wrong train, loses the transcript of his speech, and even ends up having a bath in a monastery! In many ways, Stimpson resembles the notoriously accident prone Basil Faulty of the 1970s.

It's just a fun movie from start to finish!
