Although this DVD is lacking in extras (there aren't any), the sheer quality and diversity of Green Day videos more than makes up for it! From the early 'Dookie'-era to the pre-'American Idiot' vids of 'Warning', this collection showcases a dozen image changes for the band - Billie Joe undergoing a transformation from nose-pierced bratty teenager delivering angst-ridden punk anthems to subdued, vulnerable balladeer in videos like 'Good Riddance' and 'Redundant'. In the summer of 2002 Blink 182, Green Day and Jimmy Eat World went on a major tour of the US, and Blink 182 invited unknown band Kut U Up along for the ride. The whole thing was filmed resulting in Riding in Vans With Boys. From start to finish Riding in Vans With Boys is non stop hilarity as a trail of destruction and drunken laughter is left in there wake. What results is a film about a bunch of guys traveling round the US messing around backstage, some real life drama, with some excellent live performances thrown in for good measure from all the bands involved.

"Dookie", when it came out, reminded me of early Who, who were a local group where I grew up. After hearing the CD, especially the cover of The Isley Brothers/Lulu's "Shout", in the light of their own "rock opera", "American Idiot", I wonder how they would do "Tommy". It's certainly, to me at least, an interesting proposition. How about it?
