After such a long time away from the big screen and with no Christopher Reeve there was a chance this could have been a big disappointment- no chance! Every thing about the movie is good, the action scenes are as you would expect and demand from a Superman movie and the effects are fantastic. The script is also intelligent and in much the same style as the original movie, which means you are engaged throughout. I can't understand the reviewers who have criticised the acting, Brandon Routh does a magnificent job as Kent/Superman and has perfected Christopher Reeve's mannerisms so well that it's scary. Kevin Spacey is good as Lex Luther but admittedly doesn't have quite the same presence as Gene Hackman, and Kate Bosworth slips ... Read More:

I was really looking forward to this........Oh how i was dispointed. I can't even list the faults with this film but any true Superman fan will see this is poor. Here is a few marked out of 10 (10 being the best)= Casting = 2 Acting = 4 Story = 2 Would i like to see a sequel = (Minus)-10 Sorry but not for true fans.

While Brandon Routh does a passable impression of Christopher Reeve, this is truly one of the most boring films I have ever seen - 150 minutes of nothing happening (ok you see him catch an airplane but that really is it). It takes a full 90 minutes of Superman floating about full of Lois angst before Lex Luther's evil plot kicks in and that is resolved remarkably quickly and easily, before the film returns to Boresville. The film lacks charm, humour, or anything interesting. It is so tedious that I was the only one in my family who actually stuck it out to the end. And that which wasn't worth it - you are expecting some sort of dramatic showdown but the film just drifts off into nothing. Avoid this rubbish !

A lot of people I know who saw the film were disappointed by it: "there's no action!" "he didn't use his powers" etc. The problem is people wanted a film based on the comics, where you have OTT villians and most of the film being a free for all. I didn't have any expectations when I first saw the film, and therefore any opinion was based solely on what was presented. The first reaction is this is visually stunning! The essential way of gaining appreciation for this film is to watch it on blue ray. The picture quality is absolutely crystal clear. Brandon Routh is Superman! Superman Returns is a new sequel to the famous Chirsptor Reeve movies. As the original actor now longer with and crippled at the and before this movie so we get a new actor as Superman. There is only one bad thing about this movie, in Superman IV of the eariler film Clark loses both his adoptive parents but in this movie his Mum Martha Kent seems to have come back from the grave. I wish film makers would do research on thier titles. But on a whole this film is a great film to have to pass the time on a plane or car jounery over long distances. And with the headphone socket on the PSP no problems with sound.
