Well its a good movie, but its certainly not Batman Begins. What ever happened to the idea of a total re-boot, showing the origins of Bond.

They had the chance to show Bond before and at the start of his service with M16. We all know he's a Commander in the Royal Navy, but where does this title come from and why would he join M16?

Bond should have been shown as a Commander in the SBS (the Navy's version of the SAS), these guys are often attached to other units such as 14 Int Unit, the forces own Intel gathering unit. Bond could well of been shown operating in Afganistan with the SBS at the start of the movie, and have the original mission tied with the overall story arc of a movie. Showing his work on attachment ... Read More:

(no spoiler)

I've loved all the Bond movies, ever since Dr No.

Yes, some are better than others. Some Bonds are *certainly* better than others. But they're all the the same action-packed, no-brain-required, formulaic-but-fun glorious mess of boys' toys (explained by a grumpy 'Q' - 'DO try to pay attention, 007...'), glamor girls, explosions, wacky bad-guys and political incorrectness. Yep, this is the good stuff we've come to expect from a Bond Movie.

And then they made Casino Royale...

I'm sure a lot of people will love to see Bond reinvented like this, but if you're an old time fan like me, you won't. All the traditional elements are gone. It's all become deadly serious, to the point where ... Read More:

Rome,Italy. From the 1960's to the late 80's we follow four friends-Ice,Lebanese,Grand and Dandy- as they blitz their way through the criminal fraternity controlling the drugs trade etc etc until internal and external pressures(the usuals- women, police and betrayal)do them in.
Heavily praised(not least here)gangster epic has some potent action, combustible performances and an excellent sense of time and place with the use of archive footage of key moments in Italian life- Moro's kidnapping as one example - being well used to illustrate the turbulent times.
However Romanzo Criminale does not compare to the Godfather or for that matter Goodfellas. It lacks the emotional depth and sheer gravitas of these movies.Even at two and a half hours,we get ... Read More:

Having not seen this film at the cinema, prior to DVD release I was sceptical about purchasing Casino Royale. I had heard some postive reviews but also some negative ones as well, saying that Daneil Craig just doesn't fit the bill.

I totally disagree, I think Craig has played Bond in this film beautifully. Ok - so in this film theres no gadgets as in previous films -but remember this film is set as Bond has just recieved his 00 status! Don't expect too many flashy gagdets.

Overall, a great film thats funny, packed with action. UMD Plays perfectly - no quibbles there.

The Card Player is undoubtedly a minor work within the Dario Argento cannon - closer in tone to something like The Cat O' Nine Tails than the more celebrated likes of Suspiria - and a low-key precursor to his subsequent work for television; notably, Do You Like Hitchcock? and his two instalments for the Masters of Horror serial, Jennifer and Pelts. Like The Cat O' Nine Tails, the story of The Card Player takes on the usual Argento conventions of classic suspense cinema and the Giallo thrillers that would inform much of the filmmaker's greatest works - in particular The Bird with the Crystal Plumage, Tenebrea and Profondo Rosso - but gives it a more smooth, sophisticated and mainstream approach that seems to avoid (for the most part at least) the various quirks, characteristics ...
