Much better than I had expected and I was looking for something really special to follow on after the famous black and white originals, not to mention the absolutely awful "Wildcats of St. Trinians".
Rupert Everett was wonderful as the dedicated, horsey, Miss Camilla Fritton and as her dubious brother.
Russell Brand was great in a disappointingly small role as Flash Harry.
Colin Firth and numerous famous faces provided the zany supporting cast. A bevy of very lovely girls, and a reasonable plot, all added up to a surprising fun film.
I think I will watch it again - often!

After all the hype surrounding the charming Mr Firth and Miss Ehle, I looked forward to seeing this newer version of P&P, only to be sadly disappointed. In comparison to the excellent 1980's BBC version adapted by Fay Wheldon (why oh why have they not released it on region 2?)there were many aspects of this more recent production that made me cringe. The strength of the 80's production lies chiefly in the superb casting of ALL the characters and the fine balance found between the many connective relationships - and here lies the weakness of this newer version. Some key characters are played with attitudes or behaviour which seemed a little too modern, and lacking in the necessary 'manners' of the time - a major oversight considering that P&P ... I enjoyed watching this movie. The topic is really nice, there is love everywhere...
The sole problem may be that we are going trough to many stories... they should have choosen less stories.
I will watch it again as I am in really good mood after it. Enjoy!

There's so much wrong with this film, its hard to know where to start. The gifted cast have a stunned look of horror at the script they have to work with. The historical accuracy of the story is best summarised as a brief wave at a history book... The landscapes of Cumbria and Northumbria are obviously somewhere in eastern Europe, with dark age citadels represented by late medieval castles.

If you can imagine a road accident between a student version of Lord of the Rings, the cast of HBO's 'Rome' on their day off, and a souped-up episode of the 1970s serial 'Arthur of the Britons', you're probably about there...

BUT

The cast is very strong and give the ludicrous script some transient dignity. The historical moment, ... Read More:

For those who have forgotten the depth of romance and passion that the movies are capable of conveying, English Director Anthony Minghella's The English Patient can remedy the situation. This is the most unabashed and powerful love story or recent years, using flawless performances, intelligent dialogue, crisp camera work, and loaded glances to convey a level of emotional connection that many similar films miss.

Is The English Patient melodramatic? Of course, but it's the sort of finely-honed melodrama that embraces viewers rather than smothering them. And the movie never resorts to cheap, manipulative tactics. This well-crafted story, brought to the screen with great care by Anthony Minghella (Truly, Madly, Deeply; Talented Mr Ripley) and based ... Read More:

A nice change from the usual heaviness of period drama's, I really enjoyed this.

Very light-hearted and some laugh out loud moments. Colin Firth and Rupert Everett work well together and form a funny double act.

I was surprised that I actually liked Reece Witherspoon in this as I usually find her a bit irritating.

Another great performance from Judi Dench, what period drama is complete without her!

Definately worth a watch.

This film will change your whole perspective on love. It has the ability to move you to both laughter and tears, and that reason alone places it in my top five of all time.

The acting is superb, as is the set design, choreography, script and costume. This film is packed with talent in the actors; Joseph Fiennes and Gwyneth Paltrow are brilliant throughout. But I love it when a film has not so big characters, yet the actors who play them make them their own and really make the most of it. Examples in this film would include Martin Clunes, Simon Callow, Geoffrey Rush, Ben Affleck, Colin Firth and above all Judi Dench.

I could rant on all day about the beauty of the script and the way in which Shakespeare is so characterised.

A film ... Read More:

Classic, happy ending brain candy. Jeffrey Dean Morgan is sexy and adorable, Uma therman is uptight and funny.

If you like romantic comedy, girl meets boy with a few obstacles and twists but an ultimate happy ending (and the main actors don't bug you) then you'll enjoy this film.
