After being slightly let down by "Hot Fuzz", I had high hopes for "Run Fat Boy Run" as I saw a couple of trailers about a month before it came out and thought it looked pretty good. Whilst I never got to see it at the cinema, my sister just brought this DVD for my birthday recently.

Directed by David Schwimmer (Friends' Ross Geller) and with a fantastic cast including Dylan Moran (Black Books), Thandie Newton (The Pursuit of Happiness) and Hank Azaria (Friends' David "from Minsk", the scientist boyfriend of Pheobe Buffay), the story of "Run Fat Boy Run" centres around Simon Pegg's character Dennis Doyle, a shop security guard who, since getting cold feet on his wedding day and jilting his pregnant fiancee Libby (Newton) at the altar ... This initially was on Radio 4, and if you track down the cd of it, it is really very funny. Why the tv series caught the imagination of the country in such a potent way is something of a mystery to me. It is very repetitious, but where something like The Fast Show was similar, that was basically much funnier, and kept re-inventing itself. This reminds me of latter Python, and the thoughts at the time of Terry Gilliam; 'when you set out to shock people, after they have got used to being shocked, where do you do with it?', and I think he's right. It's highlights are some of the central characters that have been (by series 3) done to death and the wonderful leathery voice of Tom Baker, but by half way through series 2 you feel like you've eaten a box of ... I haven't seen it or bought it, but it sounds like a remake of "Crossroads" to me. No way.

I loved this when it was on TV. Great guest stars, and brilliant to spend a bit more time with the characters. The extras look great too.

Sometimes a bit of hard, dark and amusing period-drama is just what the doctor ordered, taking a break from BBC endless remakes of nicety-nice Jane Austin and Charles Dickens books that we all pay our licence fees for !!!

High-way man Plunkett (Carlyle) teams up with ex-socialite Macleane (Miller) to rob the London gentry of their wears, along the way becoming infamous and inciting the wrath of the local authorities.

I felt that the film was just the right mix of drama and comedy, with serious events separated by moments of shear comic genius. Macleane encouraging Plunkett to eat more prunes and trying to catch a large ruby as it worked its way through his system, along with trying to cure a dose of the clap caught in the line ... All the intellectual discourse in the world cannot disguise that these films were deeply disappointing. I am a huge Poliakoff fan and have viewed all his screen works that I am aware of starting with Caught on a Train. This film adopts the familiar surreal and highly atmospheric scenes with the most beautiful direction and cinematography. As usual, acting of the absolutely highest quality adds to the excellence. Sadly, however, to be truly brilliant, as most of Poliakoff's works are, there needs to be a good yarn. A story than draws in the viewer and keeps their attention. For me Capturing Mary failed to do this.

Having not previously seen Ruth Wilson, I was unclear whether her accent and diction was deliberately affected or her natural speaking voice. ... Read More:

A selection of familiar faces from British TV comedy led by Steve Cougan play fictional versions of themselves, making a movie from a famous novel with tedious results. Features a lot of rushing around talking garbage and screaming from a lady pretending to be pregnant. Worst film I've seen in a long time.

I don't think I laughed at all and anyone who does think this is funny must be faking it to stop themselfs feeling embarrassed about buying this.

I really hope there won't ever be another series they might start using the old gags from the previous tv shows just like they did in this and lets face it was not funny hearing the dust gag again or the same vicky pollard at school sketch as used in the first series for a second time.

I was worried about buying this and my worries were officially confirmed when I had been watching it for 10 minutes.

This is undoubtedly the best thing to ever come out of BBC 3. It solidifies Rob Brydon's reputation not only as a sharp standup, improvisor, impressionist and actor, but also as a great writer. After Peep Show, this is my favourite comedy on TV. It's witty, deadpan, and hits the nail on the head every time. You won't regret buying this.
