The potential for this film to be a classic was ruined in the last 30 minutes. The storey looses direction and concentrates to much on Daniels madness (for which you never actually get to understand the reason). I think Daniel Day Lewis tried to hard to make this an 'epic' acting performance.

There Will Be Blood is without a doubt one of the best films I have seen all year and also one of the best films I have laid my eyes on! The plot of the film is about a prospector called Daniel Plainview (Played by Mr Day-Lewis) Plainview is working with a team of men on a primitive oil well. One of his workers is killed in an accident, and Plainview takes the man's orphaned child as his own. His successes allow him to expand his enterprise, and he negotiates for new leases with a sales pitch that he is family man with a family business with his son, H.W., as his partner. Borrowed this DVD from the library, since I didn't see it at the cinema earlier in the year. While I think, like No Country For Old Men, it's a very good film, the two are different in terms of the different audiences they might attract but similar cause they both are Western-set. This isn't a film for everyone, and if you want a thriller more than a character-driven drama, choose No Country For Old Men. This isn't an easy watch, at the very least. Film: The acting is very good all round, especially a tour de force from Daniel Day Lewis. His character Plainview is a prime example of ambition turned sour.
