There is some excellent acting in this film, Casey Affleck puts in a very convincing performance as the streetwise but surprisingly conscientious private investigator brought in to assist the police. Amy Ryan is also excellent playing the mother with dubious priorities, her behaviour eliciting mixed emotions from the viewer of disgust and genuine sympathy. But the star of the show is the superb Ed Harris, who plays one of the cops involved in the investigation. His revulsion at these crimes translates into an intense anger and determination not to let the perpetrators get away with these heinous acts, even if that means him having to cross the line of the law in order to tilt the balance in the law's favour. i have seen many films most are acceptable a few which are boring and some i couldn't stand. but this has started a new league of it's own i found that the films were mind griping exciting and almost had me glued to my chair. if any one is unsure wheater or not to buy these films my advice to you would be rent them first and see if you enjoy it i done that my self and adored these movies. i highly recommend this and i'm sure you will enjoy it to.

This is cracking stuff. Plenty of stunts, good one liners, car chases, gunfights - in fact it's pretty much perfect action cinema. A guaranteed good evening's TV.

Russell Crowe gives arguably a career best performance as mathematician John Nash, who has schizophrenia. The visual hallucinations of his illness are depicted as real both for Nash and us, while the paranoid elements are given with just the right amount of off-key madness yet retaining (for Nash) a degree of reality. Crowe also portrays well the personality of Nash in his illness, for example his obsessive need to find patterns and break codes. I am looking forward to reading the book on which the film is based, and would recommend the film to everyone with even a passing interest in flawed genius.

Can Tom Hanks do no wrong,not in this case because alongside Kevin Bacon and others he brings this magnificent account of the near 1970 disaster of the Apollo 13 moon mission into one of the most frilling and brilliantly directed films to come out of Holywood for many years. Ron Howard (Ricky in Happy Days) won a deserving Oscar for this incredible film,the cinematography and script make this an especially memorable film. Now the last Saturn 5 space rocket took off from the Kennedy Space Centre with Apollo 17s successfull moon mission in 1972.The launch sequence in this film is as realistic as it is possible to get to the real thing way back 35years ago even down to the control centre itself. ` A History of Violence' is about a family man named Tom Stall (Viggo Mortensen) who owns a diner in a small town in Indiana. Everything seems quiet and peaceful in his life until one day when two men come into his restaurant and threaten the staff and customers with a gun. Tom disarms the men and kills them both in defence, becoming a local hero in his town. Days later he is then approached by a man named Carl Fogarty (Ed Harris) who begins to ask him questions about his past, a different life in Philadelphia and starts to harass him and his family. I love some of David Cronenberg's earlier films such as The Fly, Scanners and The Dead Zone, and A History of Violence is a great addition to these classics. The Rock has to rate as one of my all-time favourite films so I just had to watch it in High Definition. With almost non-stop action and some great one-liners you have got to put this on your rental list. **********(10 stars)

I have every film adapted from John Grisham's novels except for The Gingerbread man, without a shadow of a doubt this is at best an okay film, it does not even begin to touch A time to kill, The Client, Runaway jury or The Chamber and whilst not being blown away by either The Rainmaker nor The Pelican brief, they are both comfortably better films than this. The film lacks the power, conviction and the direction of all of those films listed. An excellent cast with 2 of my favourite actors in Gene Hackman and Tom Cruise, but even they are not at their best by some way, the only reason why Tom Cruise stands out is due to his being on screen for most of the film, Gary Busey is barely in the film, maybe a couple of minutes at best.
