WONDERFULL, I recently saw it on the big screen and even though I'd seen it many times before it is one of my favourite films, well into the Top 5. The only slight concern is that no way would the pretty Jean Simmons have turned into Valery Hobson. John Mills was very good but a little weedy compared to the excellent boy who played him as a young Pip. Finlay Currie was fantastic, so scary & even though he was a 'very naughty boy' we still like him, especially when he turns up on Pip's door one wet & windy night after his disappearing act , brurrr!
So if you buy the DvD you'll not be disappointed, if you are then you is without soul or heart, 'Dear Boy!'.

Like most of the reviewers I have given this film 5 stars - why? simple really; do you remember, those of you of a certain age, those Sunday afternoon films, you know the ones, always black and white, simple story, good characters, voices that can be heard clearly, no so-called background music blasting through, gentle and harmless, but most of all entertaining with a happy ending? Well this is it, the typical Sunday afternoon film from all those years ago - funny thing is, it is as good today as it has always been.

I won't go into the storyline, that has already been done by other reviewers, all I will say is, this is one of those films you just want to watch when you want to relax in front of the telly, especially after a nice ... Read More:

I love how Van Helsing carried on from the original although it would have been nice to see Christopher Lee. This is my favorite Peter Cushing film. I live in America and originally I bought the R1 DVD included in "The Hammer Horror Series" boxset from universal but I had nasty results with the disks, Brides of Dracula being part of it so I bought a Multi Region DVD Player and bought this DVD and now am able to view one of my favorite Hammer/Peter Cushing films.

It was the turn of the 20 th century. Champ Connors (Richard Carlson) was putting on a rodeo show. Returning to make a horse deal and to see the girl (Gila Golan) that he did not realize he love was Tuck Kirby (James Franciscus.) Looks like more than one man loved her. However she had a "show must go on" attitude.

Can anyone win her heart? Meanwhile down in the valley, the valley so low, in an environment that was untouched for millennium Gwangi waits. Gypsies warn us not to go there.

We get a good history lesson as many people do not realize that the horse originated in the Americas and migrated to Asia.

There are some staking similarities between this cowboy love story and King Kong. The only major difference is Gwangi ... Read More:

Great British adaptation of this wonderful story based on the Charles Dickens novel of the same name.

Dirk Bogarde stars as the wonderful (and ever so dashing!) Sidney Carton who despite his drunkenness and apparent 'worthless' existence becomes one of the most charming and heroic characters in English novels! (Bogarde was excellent at playing heroes) The words Sydney Carton utters to the distressed girl by his side who is about to go to the guillotine: 'keep your eyes on me - and mind nothing else' are some of the most beautiful to hear at such a time, and live long in the mind after the film has ended...

One of the most outstanding performances in this movie is that of Rosalie Crutchley as 'Madame DeFarge' - a great actress. ... Read More:

The film itself: Fabulous rendition of the classic by Charles Dickens. John Mills plays the part with elegance and style. Great.

Quality: Compared to a normal DVD this Blu Ray disk is very crisp. However (not a bad thing), if you are familiar with photography jargon, the film appears to be shot with a very high ISO throughout. But worth getting the Blue Ray version.

I recorded this from the tv the other night as I just knew that it would be great to watch again. There's something about the gritty greyness of sixties London that draws you right into this movie. There's no glamour here, except for one of the female characters seduced by Palmer, and a lot of the action takes place in rather bleak, uninteresting rooms and places somewhere in the capital; but the film is loaded with atmosphere. Entirely unlike and so much better than James Bond. Michael Caine's Palmer is dead straight, but not without moments of humour; he's surprisingly sophisticated, but not preposterously so, and splendidly insolent to his superiors, the characters played by Nigel Green and Guy Doleman, rather suave, upper-class, ex-army types involved in the espionage ... DVD : Greyfriars Bobby [1961] (REGION 1) (NTSC)
Having been to Edinburgh and seen the statue of Bobby, this film had some meaning for me. Film makers - including Disney - just don't make films like this anymore, probably because society has changed so much since this was filmed in 1960.

There is no violence, no swearing, the dog is real, and there is no animation or special effects - it's a sweet film that'll gently tug on your heart strings. It's innocence is so very touching and it's a classic example of the type of films my parents grew up watching and that I can now appreciate.

If you're a dog lover then it'll warm your heart, and if you want to show your children a sweet film that will show them a bit of history, won't frighten them, or teach them bad habits then Greyfriar's Bobby is just ... Read More:
