This revenge film has a lot of action, attitude and good old fashioned destruction. Convincing performances and a real edge to some of the dialogue lift it up. This movie delivers well.

i never really liked this film. compared to the book, it was horrible. i mean, they cut out a whole desert in the process, changed the order of events, and virtually destroyed the chance of book 2 bieng done! the whole point of book 2 was that he was a cripple! if you have not read the book, it is not that bad. but i hated it.

Another celluloid abortion from Hollywood dead-weight director Peter "teeth" Berg as he destroys the book based on this true story. Clearly Berg spent time analysing good movies such as 21 Grams and lifted a few sporty ideas from Oliver Stone's Any Given Sunday and Teeth Berg came up with this contrived garbage whereby young Texan football players are approaching their football games like they were about to enter a war and get killed.

With music and camera work lifted from '21 Grams' Director Berg makes us endure 2 hours of celluoid depression. The book is good, but this movie is liquid depression. Watch Any Given Sunday instead; it was directed by a real film maker - Oliver Stone.

Basically, this IS a Death Wish for this decade - but it's still a cracking B movie, with an A budget!
It's tense, gripping and edgy with good performances and assured direction. There are some good set pieces including a brilliantly shot/edited chase on foot, and culminating in an extremeley violent shoot out, reminiscent of Taxi Driver (excellent FX as hands & legs are blown off). Kevin Bacon even descends into full Travis Bickle mode!
Something about this film reminds me of the underrated 1993 picture, Judgement Night - I guess it's the inner city locations and the criminal gang characters are similiar, reminding me of Hardcore Metal act, Biohazard.
A great little cameo role from John Goodman, as a sleazy gun dealer - yet again, reminiscent ... Read More:

The first half of the film, basically building up the background, introducing the lead characters and doing the "farm boy learns how to be a hero" thing starts off promisingly. I was not expecting much so was pleasantly surprised. A decent story, yes very cliched, but what fantasy film isn't to some greater or lesser extent a copy of its predecessors?

Amicable lead actor for Eragon, and Jeremy Irons brings a touch of much needed class to the film. To be honest, Mr Irons saves the film from 1 or 2 stars from me.

However, the second half is utter tripe.

Glaring CGI failures (e.g we are shown the dragon armour that was made for the dragon, in the next scene we see the dragon wearing completely different armour).

Rubbish ... Read More:

I wasn't sure whether this film would be any good or not, but it was really good and thoroughly enjoyable to watch for a 'girls night in', rather than one for the fellas. Just buy it or rent it!, you won't regret it. A top quality cast acting wise (both lead and support).

It is a drama, but there are quite a few comedy bits in it.

Highly Recommended.

This blu ray version is definate a night in to watch. ITs a gripping action film that has a slight twist to it. Story line shows of a normal working rich guy whos tragic son was killed. Then the action begins.

Dont want to mention much as I probably give the story away but plenty of action. The story depicts a normal life changing and depicting a life of gangs.

A good thumbs up from me.

John Singleton crafts a nicely paced tale of four brothers on the trail of revenge, like four modern day cowboys, in downtown snowy Detroit following their foster mothers slaying in a convenience store. Good performances from all concerned are accompanied by a tasty motown based soundtrack and a beautifully crisp HD letterbox transfer and excellent HD audio on this blu ray release. Elements of the western, gangsta and 70's exploitation movies combine well to provide an enjoyable romp with a satisfying ending. Not to be treated or judged too seriously, its just entertainment. The disc (which appears to be region-free) has a good number of extras - commentary, features, deleted scenes etc.
