This is one of the best films I've seen in ages - funny, touching and close to the book. It leaps from past to present, story to real life easily and effectively, and ties up Kissin' Kate Barlow, Madame Zerone and the Warden well, mixing up the stories as seamlessly as the book does. It is a beautiful adaption of the book - the screenplay was written by Louis Sachar himself, which means that it's been done exactly as he meant it to be. Writing is making a film in your head, and this is exactly the kind of film he was writing.

We (family) started watching this film on TV, but as it was on late, could only watch the first hour. What we saw gripped us, so I quickly rented it on DVD. We sat, wanting to find out what happened to David, the robot boy brought to `life' by a woman who thought she had lost her own son and so was able to programme David so that he looked on her as his `mummy'. Would he find refuge with the wide-boy android in the seedy underworld where droids and people mixed - or would they be caught by the droid-hating humans, who saw fit to destroy robots in terrible and sadistic ways? This movie is about a teenager called Lizzie who goes on a school trip to the other side of the world in Rome and has a great time, and one day she meets a anther famous young star singer and agrees to sing with him on stage in front of a big audience. It is a dream for Lizzie,as she always wanted to be a great singer. but all the glam and pretend act of his wealthy charm (the singer) fades away and Lizzie see's that he is not so special and kind as she thought, by the help of hr friends. A light hearted film, with a simple story.The movie is a bit unrealistic, but it is fun to watch and it makes you feel like you want to get up and dance and that your there having a great time like Lizzie! You would have to be unbelievably sad and delusional to come up with a film like this. It is quite simply the worst example of Hollywood tosh to ever be screened. Avoid it like the plague. It has been said that the film doesn't claim to be based on a true story ... so why did the film's producers ignore a request to make it CLEAR that it was a work of fiction? Only AFTER the film had been slated did the screenwriter come out with the mind-numbingly stupid quote "It was a distortion ... a mercenary decision ... to create this parallel history in order to drive the movie for an American audience. Theoretically, "Hitcher II" is a sequel to the violent Rutger Hauer classic "The Hitcher". In actuality, it's a Kari Wuhrer thriller masquerading as a "Hitcher" sequel. Oh sure, there's C. Thomas Howell driving along the same highway as the first movie. And look! There's a blonde hitchhiker acting all crazy. So what's the problem? No problem really. I just wonder why they bothered with Howell at all if they just wanted to make another Wuhrer thriller. Say it with me: EXPLOITATION. So the "Hitcher" title gets slapped onto this little B-movie. They had a blonde psycho ready to go and wondered how they were going to squeeze him into a Wuhrer flick. So Wuhrer runs afoul of loony bird and the psychotic events start unfolding.
