In this Film Judy Garland gives an extraordy performance. Mason is superb as well, as are the entire supporting cast. But Garland by this stage in her life had virtually driven herself into professional exile by her addiction to drugs, drink, men and self-destruction. Given one last chance and with no insurance company prepared to touch her with a barge-pole, she gives a genuine bravura performance that is surely one of the great performances by any Actress in any Film in Hollwood's history. Many will argue that she was just playing herself, and up to a point they have a point, but sometimes great Acting is just that and no more, exposition of one's real self. In this case Garland's exposure of her real self is beyond brave for she knew what ... Read More:

Tom Cruise (Mission Impossible) stars as Lt Daniel Kaffee, a man who is up against the odds when he stands as lawyer for two marines who are charged with the murder of another marine.

A consistent plot with terrific acting from an a-list cast, A Few Good Men depicts the loyalties and values of life in the army and the navy exceptionally well with the issues involved including following orders, doing the right thing and friendship all executed well by Rob Reiner (When Harry met Sally).

The opening scene of soldiers standing to order and operating there guns one by one is a remarkable piece of intelligence and exquisiteness and shows what you learn in such places, which this film does exceptionally well. The direction and script ... Read More:

I really like this film but I don't think it will appeal to the masses. It is about the relationship between husband and wife. Husband wonders if he is missing out on life and goes in to a panic when wife tells him she is pregnant. Everything works out okay as you would imagine. It is a lovely story, I just wish they could have cut out the awful parts where they play some dross music as he has various panic attacks/the neighbourhood husbands mow their lawns in unison like some demented gardeners. All that just ruins the film for me. What is touching is the scene in the hospital where Jefferson is crying, wondering what is happening to his wife and baby, looking back at all the precious moments in his married life, to the tune of Kate Bush' This Woman's ... I first saw this film on TV 20 years ago and am very pleased that it has come out in a crisp DVD version. James Stewart gives a very watchable portrayal of the struggle and triumph of the famous American musician, while June Allyson gives a moving performance that shows that her star on the Walk of Fame is richly merited. The film contains some of Miller's most famous compositions like In the Mood - the climax of this in the film against the background of a German air raid is heartening as well as causing the audience within the film to cheer and applaud. A very enjoyable way to spend the afternoon (or later).
Highly recommended.

Paramount Pictures presents "HOLIDAY INN" (4 August 1942) (100 mins/B&W/Color) (Dolby digitally remastered) -- Bing Crosby and Fred Astaire were the stars of Holiday Inn with support from Marjorie Reynolds and Virginia Dale --- Produced and directed by Mark Sandrich, filming took place between November 1941 and February 1942. Holiday Inn had its premiere at the New York Paramount Theatre in August 1942. It was a runaway success both in the U.S. and the United Kingdom, proving to be the highest grossing film musical up to that time --- The big song had been expected to be "BE CAREFUL, IT'S MY HEART" --- While that song did very well, it was "WHITE CHRISTMAS" that topped the charts in October 1942 and stayed there for eleven weeks.
