Mannequin is a fresh feel good romantic comedy which brings together Andrew Mc Carthy (Jonathan) with his boyish
looks and a young Kim Cattrall (sex and the City) in a well matched romantic tale of a mannequin(Cattrall) that comes to life in a department store where Jonathan window dresses to compete with a neighbouring store whose staff would do anything to sabotage Jonathan's efforts...among these is a young James Spader acting as the infamous baddie and a spy....Needless to say there are much mischief that both parties get into in this delightful tale enhanced by a colourful character and supporting actor who almost steals the show by the name of Hollywood...look out for him (I think) and a fabulous musical track of the time....simplistic ... The movie is quite serious for a long duration. It is debatable to view The Weatherman as a funny movie. The comments written in the front cover as being comedy can be slightly misleading, as it really hard to define the movie category.

It is about Chicago number 1 weatherman known as Dave Spirtz. Nicholas Cage played the role superbly and demonstrates to viewers the inside life of a successful TV personality. His personal life is a complete mess. A majority of the movie emphaisis is directed to the personal aspect. The main troubles he experiences in the personal life are a failed marriage, adnormal kids and an ill father potrayed wonderfully by Michael Caine, even though the attempts at an American accent are feeble, but he is an accomplished ... At first i thought it was like a montage from a early 90s french film. but come to think of it,it really adds value to what marriage is all about. good film really gets things spiced up again but not in that way if you get what i mean

"It didn't fit any of the rules." Thus does Hans Sachs contemplate at his leisure the new song by Stolzing, which provides the autobiographical key to Wagner's great comic opera. This DVD features a performance of Otto Schenk's traditionalist 1993 production at the Met. The performance was filmed live in December 2001.

A beaming James Levine clearly enjoys himself in the orchestra pit as he commences the opening prelude, and that smile of joy is prevalent throughout the following 290 minutes. The glorious sound of his orchestra and the perfect phrasing are a joy to hear.

The cast are superb. James Morris as the hero Sachs is indescribably flawless; Thomas Allen is equally so as the prim and officious Beckmesser, and when both are on stage ... Read More:

DVD : Murphy's Romance [1985] (REGION 1) (NTSC)
The basic plot, like the title, is pretty simple - straight from a "Silhouette" Romance you may think, but there is so much more than romance to Murphy. This is a carefully crafted slice of Western small town life without a wasted word or action, as a background to the contrasts between the steady, reserved residents and the charming but feckless ex-husband. Of course James Garner gives a lift to everything he is in, and has some wonderfully humourous moments, but all the cast give solid, convincing performances and make this a movie to cherish.

I dont really enjoy whoopi goldbergs comedy films i have to say but in this as in "the colour purple" she is magnificent. Of course it helps that the writing is above top drawer and that the whole film is beautifully put together. The film opens with the statement "this is a true story". It tells the story of the murder of a black civil rights leader in mississippi by an extreeme right wing bigot played brilliantly by james woods who after two mistrials is not convicted. Alec Baldwin plays a lawyer who looks into the case many years later and awakens to the prejudice that he has taken for granted his whole life we follow his gradual realisation that if he doesnt take a stand nothing will change. This is the kind of film making that sets a standard, this is what films should ... Read More:

This concert was set with a magnificent backdrop of the Eifel Tower. It began in the late afternoon with a large audiance seated within the inprovised auditorium, along with hundreds of spectators watching on large screens in the surrounding grounds.

The music was intoxicating with superb individual performances and magnificent joint renditions. All types of musical tastes were catered for classical, popular and easy listening. Pavarotti gave a superb rendition of Nessun Dorma much appreciated by the watching crowd.

As the evening drew to a close the lights of Paris with the backdrop of the Eifel Tower was truely brilliant.
