I'll probably be lynched for this heresy!... but I wouldn't recommend this one unless you're a diehard fan of one of the actors, or just a special effects geek. This film wanders around, without much of a plot, relying far too heavily on humour [!??] and special effects. I won't spoil it for those who haven't seen it, but want to, but it destroys relationships, with characters betraying one another instead of standing together. Not a 'Feel Good' film, and not a PATCH on Pirates I, Curse of the Black Pearl.

As countless people have remarked the success of Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (phew) came as somewhat of a surprise given its origins as a ride at one of the Disney theme parks. The threat was that it would be a "comedy adventure", and we all know those words side by side normally lead to dire scripts, slapstick violence, and poor acting. Somehow though the whole thing came together wonderfully thanks to a number of factors. Firstly there's the script. Its a tight beast that maybe could have done with the tiniest bit of trimming but not so much as to be a flaw. I had never seen Evita before I watched this DVD - and what an introduction! The songs were sung brilliantly, although I was expecting them not to be, and the storyline made me laugh and cry at alternate intervals. Viva Evita!

A big name cast hones their passing game in this funny romantic comedy based on the humble beginnings of professional football. (And by football I'm referring to the American game where you hardly ever get to hit the ball with your foot) Renee Zellweger matches George Clooney scene for scene and zinger for zinger, and for the most part the best of the action is between these two instead of on the field. Defense and offense are handled nicely by John Krasinski, Jonathan Pryce and Stephen Root. Short Attention Span Summary (SASS): 1. This is a full blooded Terry Gilliam film. It defies easy categorisation as all his films do. It's a morality tale, a swashbuckling adventure, a wicked comedy, a fantasy romp and a horror film all rolled into one. It features excellent performances from all the leads, including an outstanding turn from Matt Damon as a preening, vain, overconfident con-man. The Bourne films clearly only use 1% of his acting ability - and here we get a full tour de force. If you liked Munchhausen, if you liked Brazil - then you will love this. If you want Van Helsing, a swords and corsets historical romance or you like your films explained to you every 5 minutes - then run away now...

i thought this movie was really good, a bit unrealistic though as her father wouldnt have been in the u.s peace corps as he was english. it is defintly worth a watch.

What a terrific film. I started watching this late round my fiance's thinking i would probably be asleep before the end but i couldn't even shut my eyes because of how gripped i was! Not normally a fan of films about government or secret agent related agendas i wasn't really expecting much from it on that basis either but I was positively shocked by the brilliant acting and fantastic plot, only reason i wouldn't rate it five would be because even though it was great i think it would tire me out too much to watch it all over again!!

I have always loved this film!! It was the first film Whoopee was the lead in and she certainly is the lead in this film - in fact she makes this film her own and none of the other actors even get a look in. It is such a funny action packed move from start to finish and it hasn't dated since it first was released back in 1986. If you like Whoopee or comedy in general then you will really like this film. There isn't a film like it out there today, this is such a gem of a movie that I feel everyone should own this masterpiece. it's like Sister Act in the funny stakes so if that makes you laugh then this will make you laugh harder!!
