DVD turned up within 24 hours - well done Amazon and Royal Mail.

As with other reviews here, the quality of the acting can't be faulted. So I'll review with from a different perspective...

It is entirely filmed on a set, there are outdoor scenes in the play but they are all filmed in doors, so it feels a little dark and claustrophobic.

Unfortunatley, the picture quality is more like watching a video tape, not what DVD can offer. I know the material is from 1990, but it's not the dark ages. The picture is washed out somewhat, there is fringing on the images and it is a bit grainy at times. Metrodome could have spent some time post-processing the print to bring out more colour and contrast at least.

I hadn't seen this film since I was a child, and didn't have the highest expectations having heard throughly mixed comments surrounding it. I can honestly say that it was an absolutely lovely surprise. No, it isn't completely faithful to the novel, but neither is any other adaptation (not even the much loved 1995 version- I don't remember any scene in the novel where Darcy takes a bath or a dip in the lake), and it's true that the costumes are far more Civil War than English Regency, but this is one of the rare examples in which it doesn't really matter because it's just so charmingly done.

Greer Garson is simply magnificent as Elizabeth Bennet- poised, intelligent, gracious and witty and is excellently matched by Laurence Olivier's ... Read More:

I recall this film well and we already own the old British release but the fact that Disney has not allowed Kermit to appear on this dvd is yet another example of how Henson's creative spirit is ultimately usurped by the market place. We all remember how much overlap there was between Henson's worlds; Fraggles would appear in Muppet films, Sesame Muppets appeared along side Fraggles and Muppets and this conveyed the most important thing in Henson's world, the family unit, his family was reflected here and what Disney and Hit should know by now, is that one product will support the other; these are old films, just waver the rights and someone take note, the Muppet franchise works at it's best when the Muppet family supports each other. These are old ... Read More:

Joe Sullivan ( Dennis O'Keefe ), with the help of his girlfriend Pat ( Claire Trevor ) breaks out of jail to collect $ 50 , 000 owed to him by gang boss Ricky Coyle ( Raymond Burr ) . Ricky's also the guy who helped put Joe behind bars to save his own skin. A twist on the usual escaped convict on the run film, is that he is accompanied by, not one, but two beautiful women ; one good ( Marsha Hunt ), one bad ( Claire Trevor ). This love triangle shapes his battling conscience ; O'Keefe gives the impression that he is more in love with Hunt's character but cannot contemplate handing himself over to the authorities ( as she would like ) and so sticks with his moll.

The brilliant direction and beautiful John Alton cinematography lifts this neat little film ... Read More:
