Take a close look at the cover of the season three dvd and you will notice something: Avon and Stringer, together in the same car, but looking in different directions. That tells you all you need to know about these two 'brothers' in season three of The Wire. Whilst Stringer is greasing palms to make the most of the properties they control Avon is glad to be back in the game, keeping control of the corners, and regaining his place on the street. Season three brings us back to the problem of drugs in Baltimore and one man's plan to combat the problem. Major Colvin jokes at one stage that to meet the crime reduction targets he has been set he is going to legalise drugs. But his throwaway comment isn't too far from the truth. By creating zones ... In the opening scene of the first episode, the most terrifying female villain on TV, Felicia "Snoop" Pearson is listening to a hardware store clerk explaining the advantages of buying a high calibre nail gun. The Wire being The Wire, you just know she won't be using it for any home improvement. And so begins another audacious season of the finest drama on the box, this time with the emphasis on Baltimore's failing educational system.

Disgraced ex-cop "Prez" features highly in his new role as a high school maths teacher trying his best to reach students who have no interest in anything outside corner life and earning a quick dollar slingin'. McNulty is back on the beat and off the drink whilst Kima, Bunk and Freamon work homicides ... Read More:

I went to see this film on the strength of a recommendation by Christopher Tookey in the Mail, who gave it a rare five stars. However, I was disappointed. The dialogue was extremely difficult to catch, and I found the plot wildly implausible. The mother of the kidnapped child may have been unfit to be a parent, but would the female detective really have allowed her dislike to become so personal and obvious? The acting talent of most of the stars seemed to be wasted on wordy, over long scenes of dialogue, while the convoluted plot lost me totally.

Engaging but not THAT gripping.

The idea behind the plot is good, but as most of the concept is borrowed from Alien, and Giger obviously didn't work too hard on an original idea, it makes it to the end of the train journey before you spot the cliches, and the blatent copying. Which covers the first twenty minutes.

Woefully miscast, with Marg Helgenberger essentially doing what she now does in CSI, Alfred Molina seriously out of place, and Forest Whitaker being ignored most of the time, when you can see he's right.

Since the entire plot consists of the foursome trying to track the alien, getting picked off one by one and eventually burning it, not forgetting the unnoticed baby with the reptilian tongue, its a small wonder that this one was allowed to escape the storyboard, where ... Read More:
