DVD : Lust for a Vampire [1971] (REGION 1) (NTSC)
Made in 1970 by Hammer, and the second of the Karnstein films, this is just about watchable hokum but no more than that. As previous reviewers have noted in many ways this is nearer to being an exploitation movie than a horror film. However remember this was made in 1970 so showing a lot of women topless was still a relatively daring thing to do, and the film still rates as an 18 on the DVD I have.

So aside from the entertainment for men, what else has it got going for it? Well in all honesty not a huge amount. It is quite well photographed, but the script and some of the acting left a fair bit to be desired. Having said that I don't remember Count Karstein (Mike Raven) actually saying anything throughout the film so you can't ... Read More:

DVD : I, Monster [1970]
This is a quite good verson of the story of Jekyll & Hyde, but they use other names in the film, but it's based on that book.

The doctor comes up with a potion that makes him revert to his "animal side", and he roams about London, doing anything he pleases untill he kills somebody.

I regretted not taping the film when they showed it on TV here, so now I'm buing it instead.

DVD : Graveyard Series, Episode 2: Disciple of Death [1972]
This incredible low budget British horror really has to be seen to be disbelieved.
Set in the 18th century, it concerns two young lovers Ralph and Julia, living in a small Cornish village, who decide to seal their love with a blood pact. Unfortunately, Julia's blood ressurects The Stranger, played by director, actor,DJ and sculptor Mike Raven, who comes to the village on the pretence of being a returning Lord of the manor.
Then murders start to happen, and some women dissiapear,to be used by the Stranger as undead slaves in order to fulfill a centuries old satanic ritual. When the Stranger starts to exert his evil influence on Julia, Ralph and the village Parson(the always wonderful Ronald Lacey) visit a local Jewish Kabalist(!?) ... Read More:

DVD : Crucible of Terror [1972] (REGION 1) (NTSC)
I have always had a love of British horror films made in the 1960's and 70's. Crucible Of Terror is an excellent film. The plot concerns an artist, supurbly played by Mike Raven (Lust For A Vampire) who lures women to his studio to make life like sculptures of them. There are several murders and a nice twist in the tale. The film also stars a very young James Bolam (New Tricks, When The Boat Comes In). There are several different dvd editions listed on Amazon. I admit I went for the cheap option but wasnt dissapointed. The print pictire and sound quality are excellent. This is a region 1 coded American dvd so make sure your player is compatable. If you enjoy good gory British horror films made when Britain was a major player in the horror film ... Read More:
