The agree with the previous reviewer in every respect so i won't add anything regards the actual show. However the content of this release is a tad lacklustre. When it's release was first announced i couldn't find anything regards extra material so i was pleasantly surprised to read, on the rear of the case, that there is a commentary, however my delight was short-lived. It turns out that a commentary was recorded for one episode only. A shame really as Coogan always seems to have something of interest to say. The only other notable extra is an interview with MacLennan and Mr Coogan, but that too seems to be over just as soon as it's begun. To some people, Alan Partridge may be just too odious to watch. Tommy Saxondale is a nicer guy, just a bit of a plonker at times. So, this may be a comedy for some to appreciate the talent of Steve Coogan. I think Tommy Saxondale is his best character since Partridge. Maybe there is some of Partridge in him, or is that Steve Coogan ! I am a big fan of Alan Partridge so was pleased when this new character came along. I thought the first series very good, and the second, even better. Just wish it would come out on DVD.

My 5 year old niece loves this DVD and wrote especially to tell me. So, a 'true' review from it's intended audience? If you have a 5 year old niece and stuck for a gift, give this one a try.

I've only just received the box set, and started watching it. I looked at the bonus DVD first, and saw the pilot episode, in appalling quality, it looked like it had been kept on a dodgy VHS tape for 10 years! Still, no matter, I thought, the series must SURELY be in better than VHS quality, but no, it isn't! Yes, it's a funny series, but it started in 1989 for God's sake, why, oh why, couldn't Channel 4 remaster it in DVD quality? What was the point in waiting 15 years for them to issue it, if they weren't going to make it in decent quality? I've got Python DVDs of material that's nearly 40 years old, and it looks better than this! I thought the whole point of DVD is that it's the best quality you can get! My son is a recent fan of Peppa Pig. At first I was a bit dubious of the animation style, but the Picasso-esque oddness of the characters' facial features and a child-like simplicity belies an incredible attention to detail. The story-lines are well written and funny without being overly syruppy, twee, or unnecessarily preachingly-moralistic as many children's programs are. If your child has watched 'Peppa Pig' before on 5 or Nick Jr you will know all of this already of course. But did you know that 'Peppa Pig' won six TV awards last year including a best pre-school animation BAFTA and best TV series at the Bradford Animation Festival? I would recommend this DVD to any parent of small children, it's brilliant.

A friend recommended this to me and when he told me it was an animation I kind of disregarded it for some reason. However I finally checked it out and was astounded by its scathing social commentary of New Labour Britain. It's simply fantastic. Wonderful and varied animation, a fantastic soundtrack and perfectly suited voice overs. I've seen series 2 as well and I think it's even better. Please BBC, can we have all 3 series on DVD. It is shocking, then funny, then shocking again. My favourite sketches were Clive, chat room pervert, Daddy and Timmy and the hilarious Daisy Harris press conference. If you were to show this to people in 50 years time it would give them a perfect idea of urban Britain at the start of the 21st century. It is dark but it embraces the bowels ... Read More:

A comedy that begins brilliantly and is well sustained up to the shoot out in the garden centre, after which it becomes too plot heavy and the humour fizzles out. At its best when it is at its most surreal and most desolate (i.e. in the first half).

Skins was pretty much the first teen sitcom that was targeted at 14-20 year olds but with the censor of 18 (others are Hollyoaks & Home & Away). Skins is about six friends living in northern England (despite the varied accents of the young cast). It could be argued that Tony is the star of the show, he's the typically cocky, good looking guy who is able to get out of any bad situation he faces. The sitcom (of a mere 8 episodes) follows the six teens, the first few episodes are insights into the most prominent characters. I think the main thing that separates us Brits form our American cousins is how we like our sitcoms, in contrast with One Tree Hill or The OC Skins is gritty & the actors are all under the age of twenty, & their parents ... I'm a massive fan of everyone on this DVD and as such, I've seen it all before. This does not contain anything new from any of the acts. Gervais just rehashes his Politics DVD for example.
