Patrick Swayze is hilariously miscast as brooding bad boy dance instructor Johnny Castle and spends the entirety of this 1960's pastiche mincing about in trousers so tight it's no surprise that his range of expressions can only veer from mildly pained to pissing razors. Love interest Baby (Jennifer Grey) seems to possess features that would easily double up as a sundial and an acting ability only equalled by a traffic bollard. She dances with all the grace of a woman unfortunate enough to own the first prosthetic legs made entirely from plutonium, to a soundtrack so unashamedly 80's in style and content that you begin to see Grease as some kind of authentic historical documentary of 1950's teen culture by comparison. Nothing special to add to all the other ambivalent encomia already shovelled onto this mess of a film. Lots of good ingredients that add up to nothing but unintended laughs. Fast cars, explosions, naked chicks for the guys, naked Swayze for the girls (and for Swayze himself), and of course, superb fight sequences. The story and the total absence of police are simply ludicrous. Funny thing is, when Dalton's bouncer-mentor turns up to help, about halfway through the movie, he's so much cooler than Dalton you want to skip the plot and just tag along with him. An opportunity wasted. Definitely one to put with other films you reckon are good because they're bad.

I really enjoyed watching this film! What a great cast and hilarious storyline, "Keeping Mum" has, it certainly deserves every single bit of it's great acclaim as the whole thing had me in stiches. This is a DVD of which you'll want to play again and again, so, do yourself a favour and BUY IT before it's too late!

This is without a doubt my favourite film of all time. I have watched it, it must be about a billion times and each time, without fail, the end scene leaves me with tears in my eyes. But as I watched it, I realized that there is more than one reason why Sam is murdered. I won't say anything in case I spoil the story for someone who hasn't seen this film, but, if you have this film on either DVD or video, watch it again and look VERY CLOSELY at Molly's actions towards the end. If you don't have this film, buy it and do the same.

Like Dynasty in crinolines, this wonderful drama develops at the perfect pace to involve the viewers in the lives of the characters long before the horrors of the civil war in the US begin. Two friends from military academy are on opposite sides once war breaks out - but in the beginning there is a believable friendship which results in family members meeting and marrying to form strong bonds. Foes from the academy reappear in war time and scheming southern belle Ashton can give Scarlett O'Hara a run for her money. Too many famous faces to mention but Kirsty Alley shines as abolishinist Virgillia - obsessed to the point of blindness by her belief in "the cause". This film has helped me through so many bad times. Round about the time this was released on DVD i lost my mum to cancer. This was the last film I watched with her so nowadays it has sentimental value. This is a perfect film to watch if you're depressed as it does make you feel better after you watch it. This is my fave movie ever. I watch this nearly every month because I love the movie so much. This cannot be repeated twice, there can't be a sequel to it, It's a golden tear film (meaning weepie) The power that this film has is unbelievable. If you have lost a loved one then you'd know the power that i'm talking about. The acting is superb. Donnie Darko is by far my favourite film. No other film reaches deep inside of me and carries me away like Donnie Darko does. Many of my friends hate it because they "don't understand it" or "it doesn't make sense". They just don't get it though. Of course there are flaws but that is why it is one of the greatest films created in recent years. Whatever your thoughts, it makes you think. The storyline is the most imaginative I have come across, every actor and actress is perfect for their role, every song is beautiful and the camera work is stunning. Dirty Dancing is a movie that is hyped up to the limit. It is recognised as one of the best chick-flicks and has somehow entered the books as a classic that you simply have to see. I bought this DVD on the strength of previous reviews. It is humourless, ponderous and without wit. Drag queens who never get out of drag are not funny; neither is the plot.
