I love DeVito and I'm an unconditional fan of Michael Douglas, but this film is totally uninteresting. What a bore. Husband and wife fight stupid for the whole film, and in-between scenes you see DeVito puff on his cigarettes, making a big thing out of it. Exciting isn't it? uh, maybe not... There's no special bound between the characters, DeVito and Douglas characters are not even friends or anything, so the fact that he seams to care is not even believable - well, the same is true for the spectator to be honest. I pass on the fact that the direction is technically outdated. Nothing else to report. I give it 2 stars for the actors which I love, but frankly this is a waste of two hours.

Michael Douglas acts his role well, as expected. However I found this
film to be disappointing. 'The Game' started almost immediately, with
no build-up, and very little history or depth to his character,
Nicholas Van Orton. This meant, for me, that the ending was a let-down,
because the film hadn't made me feel that Van Orton deserved it. Though
there was an increasing feeling that something exciting was about to
happen, for me it failed to deliver. The 'big twists' were rather
predictable I found, and I was just left thinking, 'What a horrible
thing to do'. I really feel that had the film-makers speeded up the
drawn-out parts of the film, and spent a little more time making Van
Orton ... Read More:

Having read about this film online for a while I was pleased to see it had finally been officially released, albeit it only on region 1 DVD. If you're reading this I assume you already know the basic premise (band formed, band gets huge, band splits up), and I feel that it does a good job of capturing the mass hysteria and sudden rise to varying levels of fame that occurred with many punk rock bands e.g. New York Dolls, Sex Pistols, The Plasmatics etc and at the same time makes for a very entertaining film. It stars a young Ray Winstone and Diane Lane, both of whom put in top notch performances, as the front man of punk band The Looters (made up of The Clash's Paul Simonon and the Sex Pistols' Steve Jones and Paul Cook) and the lead singer of The Stains ... 'The China Syndrome' looks 30 years later almost as intense and vibrant as it was when it was first released just days prior to a major nuclear accident in the US.

The film has all the ingredients of a classic: fantastic acting by Lemmon, Fonda and Douglas; a first-class script; able directing by James Bridges; and finally a compelling storyline about a topic that concerns us all.

A true late 70's classic and a clarion call for all those concerned about the risks of nuclear technology.

Shallow as it may sound, I only bought this film because of an article I'd read in Attitude magazine about the hottest moments in Hollywood history. After reading about this film - which features Matt Damon, Chris O'Donnell and Brendan Fraser in a naked brawl in the communal showers of a boarding school in the 1950s - my mind was made up. Having said that, I did enjoy the film as a whole. Sadly, the scene in question is rather short, but sweet nonetheless. What is particularly interesting here is to see these actors, as Attitude puts it, 'A-list before they were A-list' (the film is from 1992, when the lead actors were still young and strapping). The three put in mravellous performances, a joy to watch. Unfortunately the script doesn't quite match up and the typically feel-good ... Read More:

This is a poignant film about today's world and how change can come to a country, any country. In this case we are dealing with China. Corrupted people are framing up an American TV man in order to prevent a contract being signed that does not go in the right direction for their interests. The point is that the corrupted and plotting official is the son of a highly respected man, a son who was educated in the West and brought back his corruption, or at least a good knowledge and know how about it, from his foreign sojourn. He is using the opaque situation in changing China to cover up his dealings and has a little group of plotters and accomplices to manage his operations. But the film tries to show how the Chinese today are realizing from their own experience and history, even from ... Read More:

The Deep End is an ambitious but ultimately frustrating and disappointing movie. Leading lady Tilda Swanson is hard to warm to as is her obnoxious son, so the whole drive of the film is lost as we end up not caring whether the characters succeed or fail . It's also another of those over-contrived films whereby you can't help but feel that if the main characters had just come clean in the first place then the proceeding events would have been avoided. There is very little in the way of tension which is a must in a thriller and the whole thing meanders to a disappointing end. Credit must be given to the fimmakers for attempting a different slant on the murder/blackmail genre but this fails to please in most areas.

I've always loved this movie since I saw it on video many years ago. I finally got around to buying the DVD and watched it with a group of friends recently. Without exception, the guys loved it and the girls hated it!

You can see why. It's basically the story of a rich, talented guy who works his way through a string of short term relationships with beautiful women whilst acting like a complete jerk. In other words, he is the kind of guy that most guys want to be and most women claim to hate.

Comedy-wise, for the first half of the movie the laughs come from amusing banter, with our hero dishing out put downs and caustic comments to all around him (and suffering more than a few himself). The movie then goes into more of a slapstick mode for the second half, and I have to say I ... Read More:
