And the story continues--from the chaos following Caesar's assassination, Mark Antony's inept rule, the intrigues of Brutus and Cassius, and the rise of Octavian..this series is just as good as the first one, and every bit as gripping and visually magnificent. Superbly acted and produced, both series 1 and 2 are just gems. I feel bereft now I've watched the whole thing.
If only they could keep going! But maybe they don't want to tread on I, Claudius' toes, which takes us into Octavian's(Augustus')long reign and beyond?

After throwing a secret party for his son Chris's 12th birthday , Daniel Hillard (Robin Williams) lands himself in hot water with his wife Miranda (Sally Field) and she demands a divorce.

When Miranda wants to hire a housekeeper to look after the children, Daniel is outraged that Miranda would rather let a stranger look after the children than him so with a little help from his make-up artist brother, Daniel turns up to an interview as Mrs Doubtfire, a british nanny who has 15 years experience under her belt and is hired on the spot.

Mrs Doubtfire is a fantastic family film that is funny, sad and touching all at the same time.

As with most historically-based films and TV shows, this has polarised opinion. Some people are very enthusiastic, others are enthusiastic only in their criticism. I suppose it all depends on what one expects from one's entertainment. If you are prepared to let a little exaggeration and embellishment slide, I imagine you will enjoy this series immensely. As a classicist myself I enjoyed this, although that isn't to say I'm about to use it as a historical source, to be studied and given pride of place on any academic course or essay bibliography. Not at all; it is a piece of entertainment based on people and events rooted in reality. Such phrases as 'directorial licence' should, I feel, be kept firmly in mind.

I felt that this was well directed, ... Read More:

Rome is a masterpiece. The programme was made by both HBO and the BBC in one of the biggest co-producing partnerships in television history and oh boy, does it show.

The programme oozes class and glamour, offering passionate storylines and unforgettable characters who light up the screen. The first series focuses on Gaius Julius Caeser's ascent to power after rebelling against his friend and Co-Consul, Pompey Magnus. However, as well as focusing on the major historical figures of the time, it also tells the stories of the other people who were alive at the time. The other members of the senate, the soldiers involved in the epic battles which are brought to life in vivid detail and their families are all given a voice.

I came to this film b/c I knew Peter Gabriel's evocative "In your eyes" features in it. What a pleasant surprise! Being rather superficial - perhaps not -how nice to see a bunch of actors who have not been buffed in a sleek Hollywood manner, they are normal shapes/ sizes, they can act and convey emotion without designer intervention!
The plot I liked, was a little unconventional, which was good; dramatic developments without hysteria or melodrama. A good ensemble piece.
John Cusack is excellent; his sister Joan - always fab- lends support too. There is a cute kid but he's just that, normal with some hcarming moments. The father-daughter is strong but not cliched; lots of nice touches which made this is a very satisfying feature.
One that can be ... Read More:

This is a fast-paced though predictable thriller but never becomes dull because of good acting by harrison ford, anne archer, sean bean and the other cast members. The action is realistic and doesn't rely too heavily on special effects.Worth watching once.

Not particularly for Lethal Weapon fans but a lovely gentle unfolding of a gentle story. It begins in a damp depressing London and end up in beautiful Italy. People, as well as the scenery are transformed and the memorable performances of Polly Walker and Miranda Richardson make for a memorable cinamatic experience. Buy the movie, you'll want to watch it more than once (or twice!).

A truly terrible film. I still watched it to the end in the same way people watch the wreckage from car accidents. It was un-intentionaly funny, it has the same other worldly view of London that Notting Hill had. The only people i really had any time for were the old couple. All the rest i couldnt care less for. Bunch of pretentious idiots.
That annoying young bloke chatting-up anything that moves, where was his accent from? Ewan mcgregor playing a North London gay, how obvious. The couple being ever so nice and relaxed about their imminent divorce, is that for real?
Basicly i cant understand what the films about, apart from saying; Come up to Hampstead Heath in the summer! its really nice, you may find the odd gay hanging around in the bushes, and meet the odd burk, but apart ... Read More:

This film is an obvious capitalization of Basic Instinct's success. As usual in these cases, it fails. While the plot is promising, it never creates the proper atmosphere and it lacks depth. It is worth just for Sharon Stone, who is a pleasure to watch, and the redeeming soundtrack.

DVD : The Mayor Of Casterbridge [2003]
A remarkable film, noteworthy for the skill with which it captures the grim, elemental force of the Hardy novel. Ciaràn Hinds, physically large, brooding and saturnine, is quite magnificent as the doom-laden Henchard, and succeeds brilliantly in making us see the "man of character" at the centre of the story as an object of pity every bit as much as a selfish man worthy of contempt. Jodhi May gives a sensitive and intelligent performance as Elizabeth Jane, and the rest of the acting is uniformly of a very high standard. This is a stark and disturbing tale, and the sense of unfolding tragedy is well conveyed by the cinematography, with its emphasis on dark interiors and on slightly menacing outdoor scenes illuminated by flat and subdued lighting. Just over three hours of barely unrelieved gloom ... Read More:
