Firstly, i'm a guy, and although i'm not aversed to the rom-com, i prefer the "blow things up" catagory. Nevertheless, my girlfriend and i got this and watched it on DVD last night and i have to say, WHAT A FANTASTIC FILM. It's interesting, insightful, funny. I think i spent a lot of time on the edge of the sofa, interested to what happens next. No Spoiler here, but the end is how films should finish. I finished watching this film and instantly all i wanted to do was watch it again. If you want a great film that you could probably watch a number of times and never get bored, BUY THIS FILM. ohh and if you are a guy, the presence of Isla Fisher and Rachel Wiesz is never going to be a bad thing.

As of writing this review this film only has an average rating of 3 out of 5 stars. Well.. not wanting to blow my own trumpet, but for example,'Casino Royale' has an average of 4 out of five stars. What does that tell us about Joe public? I guess we crave over the top brutish action, fast loud cars, and the same old formula as long as it has bigger explosions than the last 'blockbuster'. I'm not even slagging of films like 'Casino Royale', I'm just saying, it gets a higher rating than this work of spiritual art? There are many subtle nuances in 'The Fountain' & some great visuals to put things across. A love story, A spiritual journey. A VERY refreshing film.

Well I enjoyed the film to be honest. I expected very little not a Matrix fan but hubby is and it was he who wanted to watch this. Sat there with my book handy so that I could ignore while he watched. I didnt read my book. I enjoyed the film the acting and well just about everything really. I would recommend.

Do me a favour, I cannot believe that this film has such high aclaim. It fails to draw you in and get in touch with any of the characters. I have already wasted 2 hours of my life watching this drivel so I dont want to waste any more time even talking about it. This should have been a straight to video film.

passable but dissapointing this adds nothing new to the genre and the climax is awful

I was looking forward to Eragon so much. The book was good and I had high expectations. The film just failed to deliver. The film had a few big names, (Jeremy Irons, Robert Carlyle, Rachel Weisz and John Malkovich) but even they coudn't save the story. Admittedly, the book is long, but they have missed so much out that it will be hard to make the next story. For example, the story misses out at least two major places (Dras Leona and Teirm). Ignores one majoy character (Jeod) and hardly mentions some others (Roran, Angela and Ajihad). The only realistic character is an animated dragon played by Rachel Weisz, who manages to put more enthusiam and realism into here role, using just her voice, than all of the other cast. Having bought this DVD a couple of years ago because it came in a set with Love Actually and Notting Hill, I have only just gotten round to watching it. And my have I been missing out? About a boy is an incredible film and will appeal to all ages and both genders. Great family viewing as it is not littered with swearing like the majority of films around and no cringy 'oh my god i can't believe i'm watching this with my children/ parents' moments! All in all a fantastic performance from Hugh Grant, and a wonderful feel-good comedy (which is actually funny) that i am sure to watch again and again... just maybe not as much as i watch Love Actually cos that would be impossible! Highly recommended

I am a huge fan of the eragon books. I am currently reading the two books (eragon and eldest) for the 3rd time and still enjoying them as much as I did the first time(can't wait for Brisingr, coming out in America September 20th). When I heard about a film for these books I was very excited. I would have seen the film in the cinema but the poor reviews put me off. When the DvDs came out I decided to review the film for myself. Good points I thought this film is technically accomplished, the special effects are brilliant. Saphria is amazing, the best dragon I have ever seen. The battle of farthen Dur at the end is also very good. The actors do a reasonable job, with Jeremoy Irons (Brom) and Ed Speelers (eragon) a cut above the others Bad points The screenplay ...
