Excellent! A slick and easy to follow version of possibly his most enjoyable work. The main positives over the Helen B/C version is that it cuts out most of the tedium- despite the impressive cast of that 1995 DVD. The cast, lead by Ms Cassidy,do an equally expressive version and one feels very much part of the precedings. The older offering leaves the viewer feeling distant and indifferent to the characters potrayed.

Jake Arnotts excellent novel He Kills Coppers was based on the real life murder of three policeman. The incident took place in Braybrook Street , Shepherds Bush on August 12th 1966. The murders were carried out by Harry Roberts, Jack Witney and John Duddy. Duddy subsequently died in prison while Witney was beaten to death after being released. Roberts is still in prison.
Billy Porter(Mel Raido) is based on Harry Roberts. He has left the army and fallen into a life of petty crime. Doted on by his mother Lily (Maureen Lipman) the revellery created by England's World Cup exploits mean nothing to him....indeed not much seems to. Career coppers Jonathon Young (Liam Garrigan) and Frank Taylor (Rafe Spall) are inseparable until they run into call girl Jeannie ... Read More:

My favorite Dracula film prior to this was with Gary Oldman & Winona Ryder. What impressed me most about this 2006 BBC version was that it was so character driven rather than 'horror' driven. I found the characters complex and intruiging. I liked the layers of Lord Holmwood's desperate search for a cure, Singleton using everybody, Dracula pursuing what he wanted while fighting off those who would try to usurp his power to use it for their own gain, on & on. It was less good & evil and more conflicting goals & desires.

I think maybe the cover of the DVD is a bit mis-leading in this case as it depicts such classic horror (blood & fire) rather than the moodiness and quietness of the film. I saw it on TV with no expectations from ... Read More:

I am very pleasantly surprised to find out that this extremely watchable
film is now on DVD.
Anyone who even vaguely appreciates Jane Eyre, will find this DVD absorbing. The storyline is well woven, and the actors complement each
other beautifully.
The scenery is a great testament to the beauty of Jamaica, and brings an almost claustrophobic warmth into your living room.
I was totally captivated by the stunningly beautiful minx of a sexy slave girl Amelie, played brilliantly by Lorraine Burroughs. She is destined to
be one to look out for, her scenes were so self assured.
If she were to be in a TV series, I would certainly be rushing home to watch it.
It is truly a "Must See"

The set is very steralised and makes me think not of a 12th century castle but an 80's photo shoot location. Alais' sulky pout got on my nerves and I longed for Eleanor, Henry or anyone to lock her up in the dungeon. Eleanor spends her time in tears and Patrick Stewart, while a fine actor, is script reading and delivers his role without conviction, unlike Peter O'Toole he didn't fit the part and seemed too mild to be Henry.
Richard speaks in a strange Irish\Welsh accent, Geoffrey, (when not strutting around looking like Da Vinci or some other renaissance painter), could give Alan Rickman's Sheriff of Nottingham a run for his money with that hair & beard combo and John - well John is just grotesque and comes across as the family Quasimodo. The only person ... Read More:

"Of course he has a knife, he always has a knife, we all have knives! It's 1183 and we're barbarians!" The genius of James Goldman's perfect script for The Lion in Winter is the way it takes great historical figures and not only makes them all-too-recognisably human but also makes their faults serve as the world in microcosm. And it does it with wit, drama and genuine emotion as its two titans battle each other with a great hatred born of a once great love while their unlovely brood jockey for position and the crown of England in an ever escalating web of one-upmanship and betrayal. As such, it's foolproof and virtually idiot proof, the kind of thing that not even a talented director could ruin. Unfortunately one of the reasons the play has been so rarely revived is because ... for myself and shall read the story as it was written. I have never read EM Forster, although I have had every intention of doing so. I have never seen the Merchant/Ivory production of Forster's work either. And so I decided to watch the Andrew Davies version to see if I had been missing anything. Not knowing the story, the opening sequences were quite confusing, and the production as a whole took a long time to get going, so much so that part way through I almost gave up. But perserverance won through, and I found myself enjoying the story at the end, not knowing at that stage that the bedroom and final scenes are the additions of the producer. One can understand the pathos and sense of loneliness when Lucy returned to the place where she and the young Mr Emerson had taken their ... Read More:
