My friend at work said "Watch this tonight on the TV" and I did, I was captured immedietly, this is an emotional rollercoaster then going into the past and present. At the end you will end up crying even if you are a boy or girl granted.

This is a DVD to buy and can be watched again and again
Amazing movie one of the greatest romantic movies of the twenty-first century.

I'd just finished reading Karin Slaughter's book of almost the same name when this dvd popped through my letterbox so I initially thought - obviously mistakenly - that some film producer was ahead of the game!

As a thriller the film works well but only because of Anthony Hopkins as the lead criminal (if proven guilty, of course) and the attempt by a young legal hotshot, Ryan Gosling, to do just that.

Frankly, this would have been a run-of-the-mill made-for-tv film but for these two. Anthony Hopkins is magnificent as an aircraft engineer turned wife-killer who is determined to beat the rap.

I puzzled throughout the film until the answer was revealed just what he had done with the gun he used to kill his wife. ... Read More:

A crucial story about history, change, sterotypes, addiction, the civil rights movement and the ability to make 'good' choices. The cast are warm and likeable but the main character, a brilliant school teacher, with a huge drug habit, reaches his pupils in a way no other 'ordinary' adult could. Built around his developing relationship with one of his 15 yr old students, the story hits something more real than just the inappropriate nature of his behaviour. Some of the best choices are maybe the most questionable!

DVD : Lars and the Real Girl [2007] (REGION 1) (NTSC)
I had low expectations for this film, but found myself enthralled by the story of Lars, a neurotic social recluse who appears to slip into psychosis when he purchases a sex doll to which he forms a romantic attachment. His doctor and smalltown community enter his delusion, and treat the doll, Bianca, like a real person, allowing Lars to work through his issues of social interaction and eventually be ready to embark on a relationship with a co-worker. All this could have been tacky or irritating, but the tone is spot-on. Ryan Gosling is brilliant as Lars, and even Emily Mortimer manages not to be irritating - a first!

Murder By Numbers is an entertaining thriller, it isn't particularly great but it if you want a crime movie that has little action but a lot of thought then this is a good choice, but sometimes the viewer does feel that it tries too hard.
Ryan Gosling & Michael Pitt are both very promising as the two murderous teens. Like other reviewers I agree whole heartedly that the film could have been a whole lot better. It definitely isn't groundbreaking!
The ending was particularly disappointing, very unplausable & surreal.
In conclusion a decent film, I wouldn't go as low to say its merely watchable, its good but not good enough for me to recommend anyone to invest in it, wait util it comes on t.v (it is shown on t.v quiet often actually) & watch it then.

The main complaint people have with this movie is that they don't "get it." They don't understand certain things about it, or they had too many unanswered questions after it was over. Well, I'm actually quite sick of people disliking a movie simply because it isn't spoon-fed to them by a director who so desperately wants to appeal to even the lowest common denominator that he or she will even wipe their audience's chins.

So you don't get it...think about it...discuss it with someone who MIGHT have understood it. To quote the late Bill Hicks; listen, read...THINK. So you have unanswered questions...so what? Does a movie have to spell everything out in the simplest terms just so that no one will feel left out? I, for one, don't like it when a movie comes at me with the attitude of a ... Read More:

The United States Of Leland is part of the growing trend whereby very successful Hollywood actors part take in independent films (Kevin Spacey, Don Cheadle).
Presuming you've read the synopsis I'll go on to critique.
After committing a murder Leland is far from remorseful, going as far to try & justify his actions to others. Although this is slightly unusual, I have a sympathy for Leland & can understand why he did it (not that I agree with it). He isn'tjust some out of hand teenager venting his anger, he has his reasons for doing it, not just to get sick kicks.
What's bad about the movie is the slow pace at which it unravells, it can be very boring with some extrememly long dialogue sequences, like hte idrector presumed the viewer wasn't smart enough to ocme to their own conclusions ... Read More:

This is a film that bends the mind like "Mulholland Drive" and like that film the clue lies in the opening sequence, in this case with the burning car on Brooklyn Bridge, if you understand this you will understand what is happening in the film.

"Stay" is an awesome achievement, delving into real life in an hallucinatory drama centred on a superb performance by Ryan Gosling as the psychologically unstable student Henry Letham. Psychiatrist Sam Foster (Ewan McGregor) becomes involved in the life of his perplexing patient whose behaviour resonates with his partners problems, Lila Culpepper (Naomi Watts).

This is one helluva complex, multifaceted, multilayered drama that stretches the mind and demands undivided attention from start to finish.

This is one of those films you would ridicule if described to you by a buddy, you would reluctantly agree to go to (only because it is your wife's turn to pick the movie) - and will end up staying with you forever.

A young couple's love is tested through societal chasms, dreams and ambitions, a world war, an avaricious mother withholding his letters, a handsome rich suitor, alzheimer's disease stealing away the past...I will refrain myself here not to enter into spoilers territory.

The story is narrated with flashbacks, as the notes of the girl (played by the young Rachel Adams and the older Gena Rowlands) are read to her by her friend (James Garner) who shares the same long-term nursing home.

Does it hit all the sappiness buttons? Masterfully yes - but it does so to a purpose!
