As the other reviewers pointed out, this is just what - to me - a light comedy is all about.....
It's fun, not cruel (knowing that 'Louis' is NOT going to kill himself!), has plenty of wonderful moments and some scenes that make me smile over and over again. The one with the raincoat for instance is one I shall treasure...., another one is the way, Louis was swirling the wine for an eternity (wine tasting will never be the same after this film!), or simply Antoine buying more and more flowers and getting nearly buried in his car!
I do agree, Blanche is really rather colourless; I would have chosen a actress with a bit more appeal! I have found it hard to believe that both guys would fall over themselves to be with her but hey, it's ... Read More:

This is quite simply wonderful.

Suspend your disbelief for a couple of hours, transport yourself back a few years to a simpler time before we lived in age of mobile phones, email, blackberries and instant communication, and enjoy.

A must for anyone who enjoys beautiful camera work, audacious plots, Paris and Hitchcock. And watching Cassel and Bellcui slowly falling in love in real life as well as in the film adds to its undeniable style and glamour.

I've probably seen better, worthier films, but this remains my favourite all time movie. It may have its faults (although I've never found any), but it certainly isn't boring.

I have persuaded many people to watch this film, several of whom usually eschew ... Read More:

Thus claims Jean-Louis Trintignant in one of the brief modern-day 'interviews' in Jacques Audiard's wryly amusing and constantly engaging Un Heros Tres Discret/A Self-Made Hero. The main body of the film follows Matthieu Kassovitz's Albert Dehousse, Trintignant's younger self, an innocuous underachiever dreaming of heroic acts he never gets the chance to carry out who is devastated when he discovers his wife and new family have hidden their resistance work from him and denied him his chance to be a real hero. Betrayed, adrift and penniless in a newly-liberated Paris, he learns to take advantage of a moment in history when anything is suddenly possible and, thanks to fortuitous friendships with genuine hero Captain Dionnet (Albert Dupontel) and well-connected ... I got the feeling, after watching this film, that I was supposed to be lying limp on the sofa, overcome with admiration at the cleverness of the plotting and the style of the director. I wasn't completely won over though. It's certainly plot driven, and demands a lot of viewer attention; if you look away from the screen for a second you will probably miss an important development. But it's more complicated than ingenious, and working out what is happening is impeded, at times, by slack editing and flashbacks which are only signified by a ludicrous change of hairstyle on the part of the characters. I was also irritated by the contrived and pretentious visual motifs - characters constantly looking through windows, flames engulfing things in slow motion- it tries to be Peter ... Read More:

The British title on the Region 2 release does a much better job than the Region 1 title, Alias Betty Fisher, of luring us into this stylish French thriller, part psychological study and part ensemble suspense story. Betty Fisher and Other Stories tells us about Brigitte Fisher (Betty is her nom de plume), a young woman who has written a successful novel. In New York she married briefly, had a child and has return to Paris. She had an unpleasant childhood with a mother who at times would become irrationally angry. Brigitte's marriage lasted six months. Now her son is four years old and her mother has unexpectedly arrived for medical "treatments." Days later, Brigitte's son falls from a second floor window and dies. Brigitte (Sandrine Kiberlain) is distraught and depressed. ... Read More:
