Loved it, another example of me reading the book before i see the film. this worked well because the book covered elements of the plot which i thought were important which the film missed, and the film made the ending clearer because at this point i was bored of the book and just skimmed it. it was a lovely pleasant sad film.

It would be interesting to find out exactly what went wrong with Amy Heckerling's I Could Never Be Your Woman. Slamming straight to dvd in most of the world, this May to December romance with a satirical wink towards the politics of US network television seems unfinished, with poor pacing, stilted editing and irritating shot choices. Heckerling previously directed the flawless Clueless and underrated Loser as well as the cult Fast Times at Ridgemont High so obviously has some idea of what a proper film looks like. Having created all of those films, could she really have decided that this was finished or did the studio fire her? Having read the book, I wondered how this would translate to film. I've got to say that it far surpassed my expectations. This film is a showcase for the HDDVD format, it looks fabulous on a large HD TV. From the opening scenes in the house and gardens to the chaos of the wartime beach, it never fails to impress. I'm shocked at some of the reviews; I found it gripping from beginning to end, and visually stunning. My copy cost about a fiver: a bargain if there ever was one.

It was a lot better than some films I've seen at the cinema. Very funny and very 'L.A.'. There are many laughs all the way through. I would say it's a quirky, cute romantic comedy thats definitely worth seeing. The cast is great. Saoirse Ronan (her daughter) shows how versatile an actor she is. Her previous credits include Atonement. Jon Lovitz is very funny as her ex-husband who still lives with them and wants to help her get back in the dating game. Michelle Pfeiffer shows her quirky comedy side (like in One Fine Day), and Paul Rudd shows us his geeky, comic, doughy eyed, side (and don't we just love it girls!)
