This is a definite comeback for Doctor Who after the lamentable time of Martha Jones who to me was a very one dimensional character. Catherine Tate, who isn't constantly in awe of the Doctor, adds a lot of humour to proceedings.

The first episode, "Partners in Crime" was not scary as such but made you think and featured great turns by Sarah Lancashire as Miss Foster and Verona Joseph (Jess from Holby City) as nosy a journalist. The Adipose were also the cutest monster in existance.

Episode number two, "The Fires of Pompeii" is probably the weakest episode as the monsters were neither scary nor particularly thought provoking. However, when you return to this episode, having watched the whole of this series there are ... Read More:

If you have issues with your dad then this film may make you want to do something about it! I would not call the film a real weepy but it should make you shed tear if you are half human!! A good watch recommended

It always makes my heart sink when I watch the "behind the scenes" documentaries of TV adaptations of books, and the focus is on how they've changed things, tried to make it "relevant to the modern age" and, by implication, improved upon the original. This is an enjoyable story, but it isn't "Oliver Twist." Now, I'm not a purist. I've just finished acting in a local version of the musical, Oliver! which also strays far from Dickens' original. But this one just isn't quite right. The characters keep the same names, but are not the same people. My particular gripe is with the way the Artful Dodger is portrayed. Dodger is a boy who thinks he's a man, cynical, arrogant and a joy to read about or watch. Yet here, he is yet another sulky, stroppy teenager. ... Read More:

I didnt exactly have any high hopes when I started watching this. In fact I thought it was a childrens movie and the only reason I wanted to see it was because Sarah Lancashire is in it and shes according to me one of the best actresses ever.
Now I've never read the book so I cant speak for it BUT this is no childrens movie. Not that young people cant watch it I just think you have to be a little older to apperciate it.
This movie is about england after World War Two,or at least in the end of it. Its about how hard it was for the children to come back home when they'd been living in America for years and for the men coming back to their wifes who had changed some...
The family in this story decided to ship their daughter of to the States ... Read More:

This DVD has had so many scenes removed (censored) it is now nothing like the one originally shown on TV, to the point where if one had never read or seen Sons and Lovers it would make no sense at all, the scene where Clara ( Esther Hall) says that it is no longer tenable for her to remain in her position at work, one has to wonder why as in this version it seems that nothing had gone on between them just stange looks. If anyone knows where to obtain the orignal uncut version this would make a lot more sense.

DVD : Gentlemen's Relish [2001] (REGION 1) (NTSC)
Billy Connolly (Swann) can hardly do any wrong in his choice of acting slots, since - even if he's on auto-pilot - he can bring an enthusiasm and delight to his performances most others crossing from comedy to acting fail to bring (we know who we mean). Sarah Lancashire (Violet Askey) additionally provides a wonderfully measured foil to the hapless Swann. She conveys her unrequited ardour and genteel dowdiness with wonderfully comic and touching delight ("Do you have it in black?" she asks having tried a stunningly colourful dress on in a shop). As you would expect in an Edwardian costume drama the sex is more titillating than erotic (and all the better for it), though Douglas Henshall (Cromwell Marsh) lends a charmingly wicked tone to the proceedings ...
