I first saw this film on TV about 10 years ago, recorded it at the time and watched it several times over. Having got rid of all my videos I realised that I had it no more!! Very, very pleased to find it, and at a bargain price as well. I would recomend this film to anyone who enjoys watching films on a Sunday afternoon infront of the fire. Excellent script, acting and sets. More than worth the fiver.

Sometimes you can be critical of a work and still be immensely fond of it, and Ryan's daughter is one such film for me. I see exactly why this got a critical mauling on its release, the trouble is, the more I watch it, the more I love it. For all its faults: the way it really lays it on thick, for being fairly patronising in its depiction of the Irish, its naive attempt to acknowledge a worthy cause, (made during the return of 'the troubles', it really did look like this British director of largescale movies about struggles of the oppressed against large empires was cocking his hat to the Irish nationalist cause) this romantic epic really feels like a romance, and is just captivating to watch, however slow moving it is. The atmosphere is perfectly ... Read More:

Went to the pictures to see this one, the Regent Cinema in Poole, long gone now, has the Dolphin Shopping Centre built on where it was.
Of course, The Yardbirds were my main attraction for going to see the film, as was the case for many of my peers. Since then we have heard The Who were originally the first choice for the featured band, but they were touring and unable, hence Jeff Beck's rather uncharacteristic guitar-smashing routine, which needed to be done to fit in with the plot, (but note how the guitar changes from an expensive Les Paul to a cheap semi-acoustic model, which also smashed-up far better!)
'Blow Up' was the very first British film to feature, and get away with full-frontal nudity; this was the 1960's and things were changing ... Read More:

I first heard about this cult film about five years ago but couldn't track it down for love nor money. After several years wait it was finally released on DVD and I settled down with a glass of red wine and a bag of kettle chips to see if it was worth the wait. Overall I'd say yes; Harold Pinter's screenplay depicts a confusing of traditional class roles and is given a dark undercurrent by Dirk Bogarde's creepily subservient manservant, who gradually erodes Edward Fox's ideas of class and status until the latter is a gibbering wreck and the former is in complete control. The role of Hugo Barrett exemplifies Bogarde's later roles where he got out of his comfort zone and began to play edgy as well as morally and sexually ambiguous characters to great effect. Fox is a competent ... Read More:

Ending a series with a cliff hanger and then not making another should be a criminal offence. Having said that I don't feel that the show merits another entire new series with series four failing to meet expectations. Perhaps one more "where are they now" show might be in order.

The major difference between the first three series and this one is the absence of Richard Coyle as Jeff. This is a shame because he helped to shape the group in a way that the replacement character, Oliver (Richard Mylan) does not. Series 4 sees the relationship between Sally and Patrick develop and Steve struggles to grow up now that Susan is pregnant.

The laughs are a little more spread out in this series but they are there. Some comedy moments had me in hysterics, others failed ... Read More:

The funniest antidote to American "friends" style sit-coms I've seen in a long time. - just don't watch it with your parents, - it'll freak you out...

A very uninspiring adaptation of a classic book, pales in comparison to the 1946 version, in spite of the latter version's faults. Low budget, lousy sets, unconvincing performances. It's a case of 'pick your poison'. The relative cheapness of the DVD (£6.99) only mirrors the cheapness of the production. whatever you pay for this, it will be too much...

Take it from someone who used to, kinda, enjoy Friends every now and then: all those who dare to compare Friends and Coupling have no idea what they're talking about! You simply can't compare a lame, pathetic, plain vanilla excuse of a sitcom to a brilliant, racey, inventive, side-splitting rollercoaster of fun. What's funny is that I'm not even British or native English speaker for that matter, so some of the jokes have regretably gotten wasted on me! However, I haven't laughed that hard since Seinfeld (nor I thought I ever would). Needless to say I'm completely addicted, and since my da*n cable provider doesn't carry BBC America, I guess, I'll have to wait until season 4 comes out on DVD. As to American remake of Coupling, all I can say is - please! As one of the reviews on the Internet said, ... Read More:

I love Coupling. It's so incredibly funny and clever.

But the 'extras' on this DVD are just appalling. Probably the worst I've ever seen. It would have been better just to leave them out.
