Here we have it - the first of the classic "Dallas" DVD sets!

The series that originally started out as a TV mini-series (the first 5 episodes on this package now re-titled as 'Season 1') and eventually was responsible for coining the term 'Soap' as a blueprint for a number of imitations to come.

This groundbreaking, award-winning ratings-grabber told the story of the oil rich Ewing family, and focused on the trials and tribulations of their everyday lives of power, wealth, love, greed, lust, and ambition. There are some wonderfully-written character portrayals and story lines that unfold in these early episodes which primarily centred around the events of youngest Ewing sibling, Bobby and his new bride, Pamela. I fully expected to find this film directed by Alan Smithee or some such pseudonym. However, the director Albert Pyun has such credits as 'Brainsmasher: A Love Story' and 'Alien from L.A.' on his curriculum vitae, so (despite the almost-tolerable film such as 'Cyborg') I thought I might have stumbled upon the reincarnation of Ed Wood. However, I know 'Plan 9 from Outer Space'; I've seen 'Plan 9 from Outer Space'. This film is no 'Plan 9 from Outer Space'.

This is one of those low-budget, martial arts films designed to capitalise on the success of earlier glories. There was a successful film, entitled 'Kickboxer', which starred Jean-Claude van Damme (and not directed by Pyun). Van Damme steered clear of the sequels to make other films (not ... Read More:

I own all 5 Kickboxer movies and this is the one smack in the middle. With Kurt Sloane (Van Damme) killed by the evil Tong Po, David (Sasha Mitchell) remains the last of the Sloane's left.

In this movie we get a Rocky V style story, leading to David verses Tong Po (Michel Qissi). The good thing is at least the REAL Tong Po is in this one (unlike 4). He appears more sadistic and dangerous than in his first appearance, however Sasha's fight skills don't look nearly as impressive as Qissi or Van Damme but look more Kickboxing than Van Damme's did.

Overall the movie delivers a better story than the first, however there is ALOT less fighting and the movie seems to go really slowly, due to it being like 70 mins before David even trains ... Read More:

This movie is actually a worthy sequel to Kickboxer. There is even more thought put into this one than the first. Mitchell is a fine actor if you're not too demanding and the story is quite appealing for martial arts fans. The acting is great all-round with some well-known actors (Peter Boyle, Cary Hiroyuka-Tagawa) to keep it going. It's just a shame you can't get the other sequels that Mitchell was in cause they're probably just a good. Overall, this is a great film that managed to capture the essence of kickboxing differently, but perhaps just as well as the first film.

Though the 'Kickboxer' series was made famous by Van Damme, I actually prefer the character of David Sloane played by Sasha Mitchell.

I do like this film mainly because of the characters, but the action is good. The only disappointment is that David Sloane doesn't actually take part in a kickboxing match itself.

Overall a decent film.
