DVD : I.D. [1995]
This is by far the best film about football hooligans in my opinion. Although in a lot of parts you don't get to see the actual violence you know whats happening and its the power of the story that grips you. The charactors are really well developed and you feel like you know them by the end of the movie. I'd recommend this movie to anyone.

DVD : Lynda La Plante - The Commander - Vols. 1-3

I became addicted to Lynda LaPlante after watching Prime Suspect for years! I started buying her books, recently, and was pleased when - after a friend sent me a universal DVD player - that I could see COMMANDER stateside. However, I found it plodding, compared to PRIME SUSPECT and found The Commander's character so maddeningly full of holes, I simply couldn't take it seriously. The killed was so transparently sociopathic, I just couldn't SEE how any powerful woman could have been fooled by him. And the more it seemed she tried to dig herself OUT of the hole she was in, after that ludicrous entrapment scene, the deeper I felt she dug it. If he HADN'T had the good grace to get himself killed in prison, she'd have never managed to extricate ... Read More:

DVD : A Christmas Carol [1999] (REGION 1) (NTSC)
I remember thinking nine years ago 'What the hell do we need yet another version of A Xmas Carol for' (as great as the story is) and consequently, I avoided watching it. But years roll on quite swiftly, and eventually, I thought I'd give it a go, spurred on mainly by seeing Patrick Stewart on a few chatshows down the years and thinking what a nice bloke he was, completely unshowbizzy. He was without doubt a star in this film version, full of awe at what his ghosts are showing him, and full of humanity when he eventually saw the light.

This is quite a snug and cosy feeling production, with alot of attention paid to little details, and the domestic scenes with Bob Cratchet and family are heartwarming. Stewart plays the character as he should be ... Read More:

Ross Kemp stars in this TV movie drama based on the novel by Gerald Seymour with a good cast of British Character Actors. His sales to Iran get him in deep trouble with the MI6. It's not too long before a change of identity is required. Tense and fast moving thriller.

An amazing film. As another reviewer pointed out, you start off unsure but it soon pulls you in, and by the end it's absorbing and utterly compelling. It's superbly directed and filmed, full of artistic touches which add to the intense atmosphere. The acting is supreme and this includes the children; the final scene involving the young brother and sister is utterly extraordinary in its intensity and realism. This is an incredible film which I am proud to have watched,

This is an almost unforgettable film, one for the crazy arty section of your collection, and one that probably won't appeal to all tastes - but it is worth seeing. Remarkable plot, characters and location. For me the most memorable thing is probably the cinematography - England's Lancashire plain is a bizarrely beautiful place of emptiness, and well known for being almost impossible to photograph.

Only misses out on five stars for being Difficult. File somewhere near Peter Greenaway and My Own Private Idaho.

I'm a huge Alan Rickman film and quite like Clive Owen (not his films though, just his acting) and was disappointed with this. The story of an incestuous relationship just wasn't interesting enough to hold the film together.
