The release of a D.V.D. of any artist collection of "hits" or best-loved tracks is where the D.V.D. usually follows the same running order as the C.D. of the same name, not so with Shawn Colvin's "Polaroids: a video collection" not only do you get the promotional films for the tracks released as singles from her excellent back catalogue with the choice of Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound or P.C.M. stereo, the disc also contains nine live performances, there is also 2 interviews, a discography and a very revealing audio commentary track for all the promos from Shawn herself, all accessed using interactive menus. If you were to want a single piece of media from female artists of the mid-late 90's going through to the new millennium, there's not a better volume to pick up than this. You'll have already seen the artist list..... so I won't go into that other than to say that this is the female round up de la force of the time. The Indigo Girls just have the tracks that all of the assembled folk know, Shawn Colvin is great, Meredith Brooks seriously rocks, Jewel just breezes into the crowd, and Sarah Mclachlan simply OWNS the stage - no questions asked - even on an equal billing, she just rules.
