DVD : Bernard and the Genie [1991]
Fast moving and very funny. Lenny Henry, Rowan Atkinson and Alan Cumming are all excellent in this. Thank goodness I recorded it off the telly years ago and the copy is still OK!!! It should definitely be on DVD for all to see. Both my children loved it.
A film-quality "made for TV". Lenny Henry is wonderfully over-the-top as a genie who has e.g never before eaten a burger, & doesn't understand the modern gadgets etc. that we take for granted, and who eagerly explores modern living with gusto and zest, but who starts to miss his old life and his girlfriend of circa 2,000 years ago, whose papyrus image he touchingly takes out to look at!! Rowan Atkinson is wonderfully mean, scrooge-like and bullying to his employees. Alan Cumming is ... Read More:

& even better after all these years later.

Maybe it's because they don't make television dramas like this anymore that 'Bouquet' stands out quite so much in retrospect. At the time it was merely gripping, must-watch TV. Now it's an addictive gem from the golden era of British television drama.

Every single performance is top notch. The script in its upmarket soapy way, a masterpiece. Whoever cast this deserves an accolade of their own, so well does each actor slip into their role.

Not only is this good to see again, I personally am happy to watch it over and over again every few years. It's THAT good.

What we have here is both the original series and they were both equally as good, though in a ... Read More:

This film for 2005 looks seriously dated. I thought it looked more like something shot in the mid 90s. The characters are all very bland and boring. Girl assumes boyfriend wants long-term relationship, WRONG! She leaves, moves in with her friend. Friend leaves, enters cousin... male of course who just happens to be the brother of her ex-boyfriend. They eventually 'get it on'. Don't worry. Its not exciting, usual b&b (bland and boring). Ex-boyfriend now dumped by would-you-believe-it, all-in-a-flash ex-fiance, has now come to his senses and wants ex-girl back. (I kept calling out don't bother!). He then catches on that she is with brother. Teeny-weeny argy-bargy, no real passion. She ends up with brother.

It was abosolute tosh! ... Read More:

5.The Poseidon Adventure [1972] starring: Gene Hackman, Ernest Borgnine, Red Buttons, Carol Lynley, Roddy McDowall

DVD : The Poseidon Adventure [1972]
The original The Poseidon Adventure isn't exactly a film so good that it couldn't stand remaking. The first half hour before the wave hits is like a very badly written episode of The Love Boat, with painfully on the nose dialog ("What kind of priest are you?" "I'm a renegade! The very best kind!") and hideously stereotyped characters. In fact, truth to tell, it's a pretty pedestrian affair even after the ship goes bottom up: strip away its high concept and all you're really left with is a long, slow wade to the grave for some of the characters en route to the cheapest closing sequence ever fobbed off on an audience in a major studio picture. Aside from the odd bit of dialog about the importance of life in the face of death or Gene Hackman's occasional ... Read More:

This film is spectacularly awful. Let's get that straight from the off. Melanie Griffith proves once again that her performances in Something Wild and Working Girl were total flukes as she sleepwalks through this appalling piece of mis-casting. Captain Flappy-jowls, Michael Douglas, is equally bad but for different reasons - He seems to think he's in a good film (not the ludicrous cartoon this really is) and throws himself into badly written scenes with gay abandon and a recklessness that would be admirable if it weren't so misplaced. Having said all that, this is without a doubt one of the finest unintentional comedies ever made and a total laff-fest from start to finish. HIGHLY recommended. Double-bill it with John Badham's equally hilarious piece of junk, Incognito, ... Read More:

Well, I love this serial. It is my favourite of all that have been made by the books of Barbara Taylor Bradford. Victoria Tennant is great, and the clothes used in the serial are simply stunning. Also it is fun to watch Elizabeth Hurley in her younger days. She is nice to watch, and considering she is not much of an actress it would be better for her to stay at the television then to try to ruin every movie she shows up in.

I went to see Prince this past summer, but I had to keep reminding myself that I would not be seeing the sign of the times concert and that it wasn't 1987. Nothing will ever top this, It's just unbelievable. Prince and The Cat, (Cathey Glover) share an amazing chemitstry that can not be beaten by Mayte, Diamond and pearl or any other of the female stage side kicks he has had in the past. I urge any one who does not own this to purchase a copy immediately as you are missing a classic historical performance. In My opinion some of the best performance's are "I could never take the place of your man", "If I was your girlfriend","Forever in my life" and "Its gonna be a beuitiful night".

Dangerfield was an excellent series which has lost none of its freshness despite being over a decade old. All series were interesting, multi-layered, due to the blending of medical issues and crime, and very enjoyable as well. Series 2 was almost certainly the best with it's hard-hitting story lines and excellent acting, but the entire series is well worth watching more than once.
The question is, now that the BBC has finally decided to release Series 1 and 2, is there a chance that all series, (there were 6 in all, with Nigel Havers taking over from the very talented Nigel Le Valliant in the later series) will be released as well - and soon as there are no new episodes to come.It is not very encouraging for buyers when they do not get the opportunity to buy the entire set - in ... DVD : Mozart and the Whale (Crazy in Love)
Asperger's syndrome is usually marked by those who have normal intelligence and language development, but who also exhibit autistic-like behavior and marked deficiencies in social and communication skills. In this quiet and understated little film, Josh Hartnet and Australian actress Rahda Mitchell play two young people afflicted.

Hartnet stars as Donald Morton, a cab-driver who maintains a support group for disorder-laden individuals. Although he is afflicted himself, Donald has a phenomenal talent for numbers whilst also seeming to lead a pretty ordinary life, although he gets fired from jobs on a regular basis and has trouble keeping his apartment clean and tidy, especially with his collection of birds that constantly run amok.

Donald is a bit of a kind ... Read More:
