As I have never seen the stage show, I cannot compare the two. I have heard the music many times and always wanted to see it, now that I am able to I can say that it is one of the best musicals I have ever seen. The story is dramatic and sends shivers up your spine every 2 minutes. It takes you back in time to the point where I came out thinking that I should be wearing a corset and have my best puffy dress on. I love the attention to detail, not one thing looks out of place. The theatre looks amazing and the cinimatography is very good. I also thought that the actors fitted the roles perfectly, and their voices surprised me. Gerard Butler's voice was amazing, even though he had not sung before, he was the best phantom I've heard (though I am ... Read More:

Watched this a few years back but couldn't get on with the animation style. It was bought as a present for my 4yo who loves it. On re-watching I didn't have the same animation prejudice simply because Tim Burton has made it more 'acceptable'. Shallow of me I know but there you go.
The Aunts are fantastic in the 'real-life' section although I couldn't get on with the boy. Pete Postlethwaite still gives me the creeps (although that's from the Sharpe TV series rather than this film).
In the animated section the bugs are all pretty good and the boy gets better.
The songs are OK but I didn't find them particularly catchy.

This is my favourite adaptation of a Forster novel and it has thankfully been re-released as a proper widescreen version which fills the full screen of my TV. (The original DVD was a failed experiment in adaptation resulting in a shrunken picture in which very little was visible whatever TV shape you were using). Despite being rooted in the uptight Edwardian social rectitude of 1908, the novel still has plenty to say about the present day. At the time Edward Morgan Forster was firmly cowering at the back of the closet and channelling his hidden homosexuality into a critique of his time. People behave as they think they should behave. They repress their wonderful true nature in order to conform to stereotypes and thereby diminish their own existence. If you feel that ... Read More:

Just a quick review to warn buyers that 'Ace Ventura - When Nature Calls' is cut by one minute thirty eight seconds to achieve a PG rating (As are all versions available in the UK). Several of the edgier/cruder jokes have been either reduced or removed.

If that doesn't bother you then buy this boxset without hesitation, but if you want the films completely uncut then buy the region 1 DVDs from America.

I have read all of the Roman Mysteries' books and I loved them, so when i heard a tv series had come out i watched it... and i hated it. The books are to good to be broadcasted on the CBBC channel, at 4:30, as a 20 min children's show. I would have prefered it to be a movie.

Insp.North (Kate Buffery) was a totally credible charactrer as a police officer just like Jane Tennison. Unfortunately her replacement, Victoria Smurfit is quite beyond belief. She has no credibility whatsoever as a polce officer (in episodes 7 and above).

She spoils an outstanding series - Don't bother with the more recent short episodes..

Sumptuously filmed in beautiful colours, and with a Dolby sound track that will have your upstairs neighbours hammering in rage on your ceiling with their walking sticks, this film presents a largely fictional account of Mozart's last years, and quite libellously portrays Antonio Salieri as Mozart's murderer. It's all about envy, God and getting your just deserts, according to one Amazon reviewer, and I suppose that according to this school of thought, the fact that it's a seriously inaccurate reconstruction of the past is besides the point. Mozart emerges as a highly precocious and slightly nauseating American kid with an irritating high-pitched laugh, brilliant at wowing the Viennese public, upper and working class alike, with colourful theatricals. His juvenile wifelet, ... Read More:

Our entire family has enjoyed watching this updated classic on the TV. As ardent fans of the originals, the grown-ups were very suspicious of these Johnny-come-lately's, since as a rule, remakes suffer in comparison with the originals.

Not so the 'Mr Men Show'. The humour in these cartoons in gentle (although it is guilty of reinforcing racial stereotypes) and multi-levelled, so both children and adults can enjoy them together (essential for good children's viewing these days). The slightly preachy moralising of the original books has gone and what's left is top quality family entertainment.

So why only two stars? Well frankly it's the fact that the DVD only contains five episodes. Perhaps I was a fool for pre-ordering; first release TV DVD's are ... Read More:

I did not know what to expect when i got this film about a lecturer who is possessed by the spirit of occult obsessive aleister crowley after entering a virtual reality machine that has his thoughts and teachings programmed in it. What i got was an amazing viewing experience. Simon Callow is amazing as aleister giving him a multi layered personality, the screen just lights up whenever he is on and he dominates this movie. But acting overall is fantastic in this movie. Some of the scences of sexual occultism are quite shocking but it is never to ott and helps keep the realism the film has created. The only downside is the slighlty crazy last sequance where it almost ruins a perfectly crafted film. A must see for anyone interested in crowley or any one who likes their mystery with ...
