All the reviews here are of the movie. They could apply to the VHS tape as easily as the DVD. What about the DVD? Are the video and audio quality better than a VHS tape? Is it good enough to justify paying to ship the DVD outside of the UK to replace a tape (since it is not available here on DVD)?

Update: I took a chance and ordered the DVD. The video and audio quality are certainly better than a VHS tape, but it is also hardly up to current standards for DVD. The audio is only stereo. A 5.1 audio mix would have made the atmospheric sound and the excellent music score even more vivid. Amazon.uk describes the video as 4:3 aspect ratio, which is technically correct, but what the disc actually presents is the 2.35:1 original ... Read More:

A short summation. Jaws 2 was a respectable sequel, let down only by Scheider's lacklustre performance (he reportedly didnt want to do the film, but was contractually obliged to) and by the incessant girly screaming in the catamaran sequences in the 2nd half ("aaaaaaah...a shark....get the boys to deal with it..." etc.) Certainly not the Moby Dick-esque tour-de-force of the "3-Men-In-A-Boat against the marine behemoth" first film (still one of the best films ever made), but more of a teen-slasher Halloween cheap thrills affair for winter popcorn nights in.

The 3rd film was just plain boring. At least they attempted to intercut real footage of sharks for some of the sequences, which added to the reality, although the rubber close-ups are ... Read More:

Set some years after the events in Jaws 2, this sequal sees Chief Brody's two sons now working in an underwater theme park. One day, a baby shark is captured and brought into the park, resulting in its big bad parent turning up. A homage to Gorgo? No, this film isn't so much a homage as a mouldy, stinky piece of fromage. The idea of the theme park is a good one, and there are a few memorable moments. But mostly it's just pretty laughable. The special effects are dire, the 3-D idea is a stupid and pointless gimmick, and the shark itself looks like it's had less money spent on it than a 1970s Dr Who monster. I'm giving this film two stars, as it's at least entertainingly bad, unlike Jaws 4 which is just bad. If you've never seen any Jaws films then ... Read More:

Good Sword & Sorcery action film, set in Dark Age/Medieval times (as opposed to Conan/Lord Of The Rings pre-history) with an overt fantasy edge.
It's successful in overcoming it's budgetary limitations, with plenty of action, decent sets/costumes etc and inventive visual FX. There's quite a high gore content here with grisly plague victims, heads cleaved in half, and hearts magically torn out! A very good villain too with the demonic, Sorcerer of the title (Great Make Up FX). The fight choreography is reasonable too with an impressive final sword fight ( incl. a three bladed mystical sword that can actually propel the blades, in missile fashion!)
The film has more of an Indiana Jones feel, than the intensity of Conan The Barbarian or Excalibur. It ... Read More:

DVD : Agatha Christie's Death On The Nile [1978]
Having viewed "Murder on the Orient Express" and seeing Albert Finney in the role of Hercule Poirot, I was uncertain about my reaction to Peter Ustinov in this leading role, such different personalities and physical types/appearances. My concerns were quickly laid to rest, when at a hotel on the banks of the Nile, Mr. Poirot spoke in his French-accented Belgian voice to David Niven who played a lawyer representing Lynette Doyle's (aka Ridgeway's) interests, one knew this would be a film worth viewing. All the key players in this murder/drama were staying at the same hotel, waiting for the luxury steamboat "Karnak" to arrive and take them on their cruise down the Nile ...

Based on Agatha Christie's book of the same title, the film is superbly cast with such ... Read More:

Thanks to Royal Navy might, Britain was living in `splendid isolation' throughout the 19th Century, unthreatened by and therefore wholly unconcerned with anybody else, lest it interrupt Lloyds, tiffin' and Ascot. Prussia and several other German states managed to beat mighty France within a few months in 1870 and achieve unification. As a land empire Imperial Germany was respected and admired - that is, until Kaiser Bill started building a navy.

At the time of publication Erskine Childers' THE RIDDLE OF THE SANDS (1903) was but one of many so-called `invasion novels' predicting a war with, usually, Germany and calling for British preparedness. However, such is its popularity that it has remained in print ever since. Back then it was one of the first spy thrillers ... Read More:

Remember the Meatloaf song? Well I needed Jaws 2, I wanted Jaws 3, as for Jaws 4 it fills a space in the box.
As was explained in Jaws 2 Shark's don't hold grudges but here we have a series of sharks who have it in for the Brody bunch big style.
Jaws 2 is a good movie and captures Chief Brody's fall from grace quite admirably. It is well acted, the addition of the kids was a great idea. The attack on the flotilla of small boats at the end is very well done. The scarred shark looks great. There are plenty of extras on the Jaws 2 disc, a documentary on the making of Jaws 2, deleted scenes, scoring the movie. The other 2 discs are devoid of extras of any note.
Jaws 3, set in a marine park goes off at a tangent but is a suitable addition to the series. The 3D effects do ... Read More:

Jaws 2 wasn't that good. The bit of action was when the boats crash into each other. The shark wasn't scary at all and when you heard the music you knew what was going to happen. The directing isn't as good as in the first and it isn't as exciting.
Overall:1 Star
Jaws 3 is one of the best in the Jaws series. It is because it is 3D so the shark will pop out of the screen(if you where glasses.)But, yet again you know whats going to happen when you hear the music so that kind of spoils it.The shark is quite scary but there is one thing i don't get. The female shark wants revenge because her baby died in the aquarium, but, how did she know? It is still a good film which is worth owning.
Overall:3 Stars
Jaws 4 was just like Jaws 2. It was boring and there wasn't alot of ... Read More:
