There were so many 5-star reviews so i decided to buy Spaced and this sitcom has let me down. What I didn't like at all is that the creators had just taken out numerous bits from popular movies and tried to spoof them. The whole sitcom is countless unfunny spoofing. For instance we all remember that scene from Pulp Fiction with the toaster where Bruce Willis kills Travolta.OK, you can watch it again in Spaced.Nobody kills anybody here.
The writers just pointlessly put it in. Was it supposed to be hilarious? Where are you own ideas?
On the other hand you can call it a wonderful, inventive breath of fresh air in the stale world of sitcom.
But i prefer The Royle family and The Office to bits from The Shining Pulp Fiction Star Wars ... Read More:

I watched this on TV and I was grateful not to have watched in the cinema.
The plot is simple and has potencial for a good comedy but sadly apart from Thandie Newton there is very little else to admire in this film .
From the tecnichal side of things , the running training , race etc is woeful and I hope no one takes it seriously ( ie overtake the top runners in a marathon after a few minutes ).

I'll be honest here: I thought Shaun of the Dead was OKAY. Not amazing, definitely worth 4 stars, but not as stratospherically brilliant as everyone made it out to be (in my opinion!).
With Hot Fuzz, however, the tables turned. I came to this film with average expectations, expecting a decent-ish cop comedy. What I got blew me away.
The film felt bigger, smarter, faster...and funnier. Watching it first time around was good enough, and full of laughs (It's hard to say what kind of comedy style it is. Most would say black comedy, but there's a bit of everything here, especially tongue-in-cheek).

But I think the real beauty of Hot Fuzz is the subtlety and sheer number of references it makes. Whether it's spotting a character making a ... Read More:

This is so nearly a great film but just misses the mark ever so slightly.

Bad points: Some of the dialogue is a bit laboured ("Shaun, you've got red on you") and the plot's skeleton can be seen through some of the thinner parts of the story.

The tone of the ending feels bizarrely jarring with the preceding 90mins and the wooden/dull lead actress really is an odd choice, considering the excellent Jessica Stephenson was on hand.

Good points: A British film the not made by Richard Curtis which the UK can be proud of. Genuinely laugh-out-loud funny with excellent performances from Simon Pegg and (best of all) Nick Frost.

By the time the same team made Hot Fuzz, they'd really hit their stride.

This show was first aired in 1999 before much of the cast hit it big e.g Simon Pegg. First of all if youv'e seen Father Ted or Black books, then you'll probably enjoy this as it's written by the co-writer of Father Ted and as for Black books, that was written by Graham Linham (the other writer).
Anyhow about the show, it's based in 1969 (the hieght of hippiedum) and sets about ridiculing the Hippie way of life and with hilarious performances from teh cast: Simon Pegg (Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz and Spaced), Sally Phillips (Smack the Pony and Green Wing), Julian Rhind-Tutt (Green Wing) This is well worth a try and in my opinion a lost gem from the nineties to be rediscovered.

Shaun of the dead is proberly one of the greatest films ever!! very funny and a great comedy duo between simon pegg and nick frost. Hot fuzz even though not quite as good as shaun of the dead in my opinion because of the two main characters it is also a great film waiting for the third film of the trilogy cnt wait.

I bought this recently after hearing good feedback from friends and various web sites over the years and I have to say I think it is almost up there with The Office and Phoenix Nights (although there are not as many laugh out loud moments). I just love it! Great characters, interesting episodes and unobtrusive film references aplenty! 4 out of 5 !!!

This is a really good film. It is a silly dark comedy. Its like a darker but also sillier version of Shallow Grave. If you like your comedy black this is for you. Its not friends or Run Fat Boy Run which would explain all the one and two star reviews. Not Peg or Schwimmer,s usual stuff. This has a much darker tone than Shaun of the Dead or Hot Fuss. Although that stuff is violent it has a positive out look on friendship and is also fun. This has very little laugh out load stuff, and is more like grim ironic chortling stuff. Very good but only watch if you like this sort of thing.

My wife hated it.
