I'm with most fellow reviewers here. The joy of Hippies is in the small details that highlight the hilarity and embarrassment of the post flower power era when us "students" (ie anyone too lazy to get a job) wanted to excercise our new political awareness but didn't have a clue how to go about it. We spent our time in "happenings" "sit-ins" and other pointless protests, and some, like Simon Pegg's character here, thought they could change the world with ridiculous or childish magazines read by few and bought by even fewer. We didn't appreciate that you can't scare anyone just by being a Marxist, you have to actually do something. And since most of us didn't know what real marxists did all day we didn't have a plan B, so when we were turfed ... Read More:

Not surprisingly, this sequel is not as funny as the first Ace Ventura movie, but it is still hilarious and well worth seeing, especially if you like Jim Carrey and his physical comedy. The first Ace Ventura movie is an absolute classic of maniacal physical comedy, so it would have been very hard to top that. Nonetheless, if you liked the first one, you should get a lot of laughs out of this one too. Plenty of wacky nature scenes, funny animals, and car driving like only Ace can do it. Where does it rank with Carrey's other comedies? It's not as good as the top four: the first Ace Ventura, The Mask, Dumb and Dumber, and Liar Liar. But it's not that far behind either. Fresh, energetic and thoughtfully adapted from the play - but darker as all the comdeic elements have been removed. An interesting take on the famous problem play.

Nearly twenty years old.
Not much of a story, but the matches are very good indeed. James Earl Jones plays the coach of a team setting out to take on five of Korea's best in a sort of mixture of martial arts.
There are loads of emotional, weepy and thoroughly soppy moments, but nevertheless it is a film that maintains ones interest throughout.
The Koreans are a joy to watch. I certainly would not have wanted to go up against them.
A very good effort.
A must-see for any fan of tae kwon do.

I loved the idea of this film, the two lead children are very good, in particular the child genius, there's alot of quality supporting actors like Stephen Fry, Simon Callow, Paul Giamatti, Ned Beatty and Leslie Phillips.

You'd think that the stage was perfectly set for an outrageous comedy romp, sadly in my opinion at least I was sorely mistaken, just about all of the adult actors are cast in straight parts for some totally unknown reason, the only actors even remotely given anything funny to do are Callow and Beatty, such an amazing waste of a group of excellent comic actors.

I got fed up with the lead actor saying "this is the best day of my life" or "this is the worst day of my life" all the way through the film, there ... Read More:

Smooth, suave, sophisticated - and that's just Leslie Phillips. This film is everything that used to be great about British cinema. Leslie Phillips plays the ladies' man to perfection and set a benchmark that nobody else has been able to match since. His brilliant tour de force shouldn't overshadow Harry Secombe's capable performance but Secombe is definitely second fiddle to the second most charismatic actor in history (Terry Thomas is still number one!).

8.The Sand Pebbles [1966] starring: Steve McQueen, Richard Attenborough, Richard Crenna, Candice Bergen, Emmanuelle Arsan

The Sand Pebbles, Robert Wise's epic tale of gunboat diplomacy in the turbulent China of the mid-Twenties is hugely ambitious and hugely expensive, yet, as with the best of his work, the focus is firmly on people, the momentous political events kept in the background until their consequences begin to overwhelm the principals. Even then, they are only drawn out of the small worlds they create for themselves (for Steve McQueen his engine room, for Candice Bergen her teaching in a remote mission) for purely personal reasons.

More than any epic of the Sixties, The Sand Pebbles seems to draw heavily on the chaos and the confusion of the then ongoing Vietnam War, so it's a real surprise that Wise seemed genuinely unaware of any parallels. Yet, perhaps ... Read More:

Although not as captivating as the 1st series, Derek Love a.k.a. Stephen Crane or vice versa is back. More creative than ever he strives to save himself, friends, "family" and Britain from the cruel capitalism he once exploited for his personal gain.

If BBC is reading this, please send out the 1st series...and explain to us why anyone would be interested in buying just the 2nd part of "Chancer".
