Shakespeare's Henry V is lavish, poetic and dramatic. The plot is simple: Young Henry V lays claim to the French throne and invades France to claim it. The rag tag English army make their way through France conquering city after city. On their way to Calais, they are met by superior, better equipped and better trained French army at Agincourt.

The English, aware of their inferior numbers and training, begin to despair. Henry V, the leader that he is, inspires his men in the famous words:

If we are marked to die
We are enough to do our country loss
And if [we are] to live the few men the greater share of honour
God's will I pray thee wish not one man more
He who outlives this day will stand ... Read More:

I'm a bit of die hard WH fan and have seen all the versions. So if you loved the romantic Laurence Olivier version of WH then don't bother watching this. If you thought Laurence simply WAS heathcliff then im afraid you have never really read the book.

Quite simply put, Ralph Fiennes is Emily Bronte's Heathcliff. Heathcliff isnt meant to be a mills and boon hollywood hero, he has been twisted and shaped by forces in his life into this cruel shadow of a man. Heathcliff is all about passion and revenge. Byronic hero anyone? the whole point of Heathcliff was as a warning... love like theirs is fine within the pages of a book, but to actually pursue this man in real life? isabella is a stark warning to women everywhere

so why then would ... Read More:

As an entertaining film this one is as good as any; whether it is re-watchable is doubtful but nonetheless it is good entertainment. Ewan McGregor does the film justice but it was difficult to believe in Anna Friel's part as Lisa. It is, of course, a docudrama in style.

There is more than one theme weaving its way through this story the main one being the complacency of institutional management closely followed by incompetence of those whose responsibility is to ensure the efficiency of the organisation's operations so it is an expose of the fissures of monolithic management structures. It is the same tale as the story of the 'Million Dollar Bubble' that occurred in the US a few years ago.

The culpability for this disaster and its criminal ... Read More:

I'm happy this is coming out but at this rate the full set won't be released till 2019, I wish they would just release them all. Also the first two series the picture quality seemed a bit blurry and unrefined to me, maybe the original was like that though.

DVD : Escape From Sobibor [1987] (REGION 1) (NTSC)
I watched this on the TV back in 1987 and it made a very sizeable impression on me. I then hired the DVD back in 2004 and watched it with my husband who was very much moved himself. We now own this on DVD.

That aside, this is a gripping piece of television drama with a few familiar faces - Alan Arkin, Rutger Hauer, Jack Shepherd, Robert Gwilym all coming together to attempt what was seen as unthinkable - to break out of a Nazi death camp.

The story was not familiar to many at the time it was shown in 1987 and I remember Breakfast TV actually interviewed a couple of the survivors, including Esther Raab. It is edge of the seat stuff as you watch the escape plan unfold and through the story, you find yourself caring for the people involved and hoping that against ... Read More:

This is a fine film for stunt work and although the dialogue is fairly weak this is still a film I like to come back to again and again. What is it about a certain film that you know in your heart of hearts that it's so bad that you should never consider putting it on your dvd player ever again but still feel compelled to do so ? Who know's, but that's the funny situation I find myself in. The incidental music tracks in this film are all excellent and I'm still trying to obtain them on cd.

Roger's performance is typical of his own inimitable style but he has'nt really been afforded the great film roles that he deserves and which we have grown to love him in. At most this is a pleaseant film and good old fashion harmless fun.
