Seldom does a definitive example of a genre come along, but this is it. Together with Costner's "Dances With Wolves" this film has to be the Western Genre's moment of triumph, certainly from outside the genre's golden age in the 1950s. Yet it was for Unforgiven that Eastwood won his Best Director's Oscar. I'm not saying he shouldn't have won for that, he just should have won for this too.

It is a film with manages to merge triumphalsim with en edgy darkness, at times it's uplifting and humbling, it is superbly acted with some magnificent characters and performances from lead and support actors alike. The film challenges many pre-conceptions we might have about this period in American History as the white man's enemy is himself whilst ... Read More:

DVD : Dirty Harry Complete Special Edition Collection [1971]
Having owned the original Dirty Harry DVD collection which was released back in 2002,I was looking forward to this all new release and I was not dissapointed all of the original films have been given another re-master,not just the picture but also the sound has been given the dolby 5.1 remaster as well and if you have a surround sound system then eastwoods 44 magnum sounds just like the real thing!!.

As well as the original extras there is a host of new extras and commentarys plus the addition of a small hardback book, production notes,Callaghans police ID badge! and also a poster and limited edition art cards complete the extras, sadly though no .44 Magnum included!!!.

All in all Warner have done a excellent job of both the boxset, extras ... Read More:

The Dirty Harry opus consists of five disks; each on a separate disk, which is of a strong material. I personally find it difficult to remove the first, and the eponymous film myself, for fear of breaking it, the disk itself is held in too securely. The other disks are not difficult, if at all, to remove, there is a clasp on the front disk, of each of the other four disks, which holds them in securely, if you replace them correctly.

The first film, Dirty Harry, consists of five extras or special features: Cast & Crew, Original Documentary, Dirty Harry: The Original, Interview Gallery, and the Theatrical Trailer.

Cast & Crew simply lists the actor's name, and whom they play, adjacently, as well as members of the crew below.

In the 1970s films became more violent. No doubt about it. And The Gauntlet is unquestionably a violent film. Buildings are reduced to rubble, vehicles are shot to pieces, people are pumped full of lead, and plenty of blood is spilled.... all in the name of entertainment! This noisy Clint Eastwood vehicle is good fun, with lots of exciting sequences, though thoroughly unbelievable pretty much from the start.

Honest, hard-working Phoenix cop Ben Shockley (Eastwood) is sent by Comissioner Blakelock (William Prince) to bring in a prostitute who may be able to provide key testimony in a high profile trial. But from the moment Shockley meets Gus Malley (Sondra Locke), he suddenly finds himself in the firing line.... and it's not the usual bad guys who are after him, but the ... Read More:

I missed this one until the other day. I like a good vigilante film as you feel that at least all the baddies have got it coming to them.

Harry Callahan is as unreconstructed as ever. He doesn't have time for counselling or dishing out cautions or ASBOs. He hunts down the baddies and deals with them he meets ladies on the way who have been hard done by and for some reason they insist on sleeping with him It cant be for his feminine side or his chat up lines because he hasn't got any.

The characters are drawn well enough that you actually care what happens to the,m Sondra Locke and her sister were raped by the baddies and she sets out to kill them all. Dirty harry ends up helping her out

You get the impression that 1980s San Francisco ... Read More:
