The plus: The movie is pleasantly filmed in a beautiful setting of country houses in rural Italy; unconventionally overt display of sexual relationship and naturist display; true love triumphed and rewarded in the end with the joyful first-times.

The minus: flawed script, unfocused story where the journey of discovering the identity of father and resuming of youthful love is distracted to an explicit and needless anecdotes of naturist playing, love-making and sexual mind games. It is unconvincing and has little reality touch. There is also a myriad of strange yet underdeveloped characters. Directors seems could not decide on following a core storyline and instead packed the movie with large quantity of sub plots and supporting characters. ... Read More:

In fact this is the only film of Tinto Brass that I have been able to obtain with English subtitles, leaving the original soundtrack intact. All the others I have seen were completely ruined, as usual, by the clumsy dubbing by the same old dubbing studio and the same old actors. They have also ruined hundreds of other films and TV series and should have been put out of business decades ago.

The well known English actor Frank Finlay in the main male part appears with his own voice.

Although there is, strictly speaking, really no single 'great erotic scene' in the film, there are a great many very well handled 'candid' erotic scenes generously distributed throughout the entire film and the cumulative effect is truly joyous. This ... Read More:

A really beautiful transfer (equal, in fact, to the remastered print recently in cinemas) with Vittorio Storaro's careful colour schemes and striking compositions given the presentation they deserve. Even with postage from the US, this is amazing value and Bertolucci's masterpiece should be on your shelf.

One of my top 5 fav Italian giallos-not as blood thirsty as most giallos but a good serial killer story-this version is a great quality transfer but what makes this movie for me is Ennio Morricone's great haunting music track-def one of his very best.

I love this film... I saw it on the big screen when it was released in Spain, and wanted to have it in my DVD collection.
...it's not your "average film", but that's what makes it worth watching :)

This movie is one of my favourites. The moving feeling I had right after watching it for the first time still remains convincing and I am going to watch it again,as I think it is one of the best movies done.Based on a great Isabel Allendes novel it pictures the "hot" environment and latin-american ways.....And Antonio Banderas is simply gorgeous .Watch The House of Spirits or Eva Luna as well.

DVD : Divorce, Italian Style [1963] (REGION 1) (NTSC)
Divorzio all'italiana is a richly textured satire of Sicilian macho Catholic life styles starring one of Italy's greatest actors, Marcello Mastroianni. He is a bit Chaplinesque in this tongue in cheek exploration of how to dump your wife and marry your 16-year-old cousin. His wide-eyed, dead pan expressions combined with vulnerability and suave, leading-man good looks made him the heart-throb of women for decades. He plays a bored baron stuck with a baroness (played fatuously by Daniela Rocca) that he cannot abide. It should be noted that today it IS possible to get a divorce in Italy, but at the time it was very difficult, perhaps easier to get an annulment, and so we have the premise of the plot.
