I didn't really watch this when on TV but heard good things about it and saw the odd repeat. I would definitely recommend it but warn against watching it in the order that it arrives in the box! The special edition 'On the Edge' DVD comes between series 2 and 3 and not at the end!!! The first 5 minutes made very little sense when we tried to watch it after series 3!

This is a wonderful comedy series. Well written and superbly acted. I remember watching it as a child and it's as funny now as it was then. Set in a northern corner shop, it reminds me so much of a shop my mother used to work when I was about 6 or 7 years old. Ronnie Barker is faultless as the the stuttering Arkwright and David Jason is brilliant as his down trodden nephew/errand boy, Granville. The two of them are so good, you don't iven think about the northern characters actually being played by two southerners. It has some classic one liners and catchprases (f-f-f-f-fetch a cloth Granville). Arkwrights constant lusting after Nurse G-G-Gladys Emmanuel is also hilarious.

I dont understand why this programme had so many accolades, especially for Victoria Wood. Her writing, generally is fantastic, but her acting leaves a lot to be desired. I found her totally unbelievable, as are a lot of comics that turn their hand to acting..catherine tate, david walliams et al.I realise i am in the minority, i wanted to like and enjoy this, and maybe with someone different leading it, i would have.

Open All Hours just got better and better. Every episode is as fresh today as it was 30 years ago when it was first made. Still as tight as ever, still getting nowhere with Nurse G-G-G-Gladys Emmanuel and still depriving his poor nephew/errand boy of a satisfactory love life or a van, this series is simply hilarious from start to finish. First class comedy.

This series was one of the most brilliant the BBC ever produced. The acting was top notch, with a number of our best actresses portraying the horrors of WWII Japanese prison camps. This is indeed one of the premier serialisations which will remain one of the greatest dramas from the late 20th Century.

My enjoyment of this DVD was spoiled by the poor setup of the DVD features. When some episodes are selected, they do not start at the beginning, and at the end they restart (again not at the begining) rather than return to the menu. I have a number of other BBC DVDs, and this is the first one with this problem.

Diana and Tom are back for the final series showing that when you hit retirement you don't have to become the steriotypical 'little old dear'.

Diana is still waging the endless battle against the idiot Bains who is still trying to have her evicted as well as attacking the gardner and driving the mobile library person up the wall (just two of her hobies) Tom is frustraiting his revolting daughter-in-law simply by still being alive.

The one down side of this series is that Michael Bilton who played Basil Makepeace died during the filming of series 4. His 'replacement' (Jane's Grandfather, Jamie) is not as good and the series did lose one of it's best caracters.
