This is variably acted pretentious tosh. I know Poliakoff has won countess awards but this one is a real turkey. As her fans will know, this is the one where Anna Friel, anxious to be taken seriously as an actress rather thna just another ex-soap star, took all her clothes off in the name of art. Several times in fact, probably destroying her chances of ever being a major movie star in the process. Enjoy those scenes, there's precious little else worth watching.

the second world war tale of women and their children, the hardships that they endured when taken into captivity.This is not all lying cells on starvation rations, but is pretty grim in places, it also focuses on the human side of relations within the group. Some of the characters turn out to be unlikely heroines, the acting is very good from the lead characters, it coveys the heat, and at times the desparation of the plight of the prisioners. The not knowing the fate of their husbands,sons and other loved ones. The guards of the camp led by the cruel Yamauchi seem bent on making their lives a living hell. "Tenko" the moving BBC drama series about civilan women captured by the Japanese in 1942,following the fall of Singapore,returns for a second series on this DVD set. As the women march to a new camp,they find out three of their friends Nellie(Jeananne Crawley)Slyvia(Renee Asherburn) and Blanche(Louise Jameson)have been sent to another camp. The writers cleverly writing into the plot,when actors weren't returning or pregnant,Blanche thankfully does return in episode 6 with the sad news Slyvia has died,she tells Beatrice(Stephanie Cole)that Nellie is still alive,although Beatrice thinks its a kind lie,in series 3,its revealed Nellie dies just before the end of the war. This series is the final series of Tenko PLUS the feature length Tenko Reunion, so is really good value for money. It kicks off 3 years after Series 2 finished and the prisoners have been moved to another camp, minus a couple of the regulars who have since died in captivity. It takes us through the end of the war and eventually to freedom for the women, some of whom find it hard to come to terms with after years in captivity. The Reunion takes place 5 years after the end of the war, and towards the end we get a startling revelation about one of the characters. Do not want to spoil it for viewers, so that is all I shall say. This is drama at it's very best, gripping, moving and above all very well put together. Brilliant!

I first watched this film when it came out, on VHS, since then, the tape died on me, and so I was delighted to pick this up on DVD. Phil Collins plays the loveable rough diamond, Buster and Julie Walters plays the most wonderful loyal wife in this film which is packed with comedy, romance, and a trip down memory lane about the Great Train Robbery. Both Collins and Walters play their parts as a couple who have been together as if for years. Shiela Hancock as Walters Mum is a treasure. Even the action part of the robbery has it's funny moments and somehow, you find yourself hoping they do get away with it. "Dream come true"....we all want it don't we? A truly excellent film.
