The Bank Job is so so as entertainment, but the most fun/pain can be had by watching the cringeworthy Saffron Burrows inexplicably given another film role to demonstrate how she is probably the worst British actress of all time.

I found this a bit of a "meh" film. Watchable enough, but nothing to really grab you. Fairly slow moving, and that's mostly because not really much happened.

In many ways it felt a bit like a TV drama, or soap even, where different characters' lives crossed paths with each other, and I was kind of left with a felling that if you'd got to know the characters a bit more, and spent a bit more time with them, then it may have been a bit better. So I feel it could have worked better as a TV series, broken down into several episodes, and extended to give more background and depth to the characters and story.

As it was, there wasn't really much depth to the characters, so I didn't really have any feelings for any of them, and most of ... Read More:

DVD : Bright Young Things [2003]
Am I the only person that found this film to be a complete disappointment? I read and enjoyed the book and thought the film sounded interesting; am sorry to have found it "fun" in a meaningless kind of way but utterly lacking in substance and plot. This film tried too hard and was frankly hard work watching since there was no emotion to balance out the purile cliches and hollow characters. This left a sour taste, particularly the final and pointless reference to World War 2 which again failed to achieve its goal in putting the frivolous Bright Young Thing's lifestyle in juxtoposition to the horros and tragedy of war. The only tragedy is that Stephen Fry was involved in such a terrible production. Far more enjoyable is Brideshead Revisited if one is into such ... Read More:

yes, this film is poetic, erotic and suspenseful. it is largely a very sensuous film, though i thought the sex scenes were actually the least erotic parts. each time was a very well shot and effective build-up, only to be ruined by extremely uniform, unimaginative, rushed bonking that will leave female viewers feeling cheated- and which detracts from the credibility of the film's claim to chart a true erotic journey.

i also got the sense (although i haven't read the book) that a lot was missed out or skimmed over; the film seemed to rush through all the various encounters and i was left feeling that the 'delta of venus' hadn't really been found, despite what the narrator claims. it was a good, enjoyable film, but i felt it could have gone deeper. and, please, ... This BBC 2-parter on the life of Lord Byron is simply stunning. Jonny Lee Miller captures the poet perfectly, and the girls are gorgeous. We go from Greece to London to Italy, back to Greece where he dies fighting for freedom. Fantastic. And beautifully shot.

The abdication of Edward VIII and his marriage with Wallis Simpson is very often portrayed as one of the great love stories of the 20th century. A King given up his throne for the woman he loves... how very romantic. The love of Eward and Wallis triggered a constitutional crisis of first order and a split in the Royal Family as Edward became HRH Duke of Windsor but his wife only The Duchess of Windsor and no HRH.

The movie is not an accurate picture but is pretty much indicates what happened and shows the main characters in a way I feel is pretty close to reality. Edward was the glamour prince of the 1920th. His boyish (not very manly looks) appealed to many and he was seen as the modern way of life compared to his rather stiff and conservative parents. But he ... Read More:
