I beg to differ with the other reviews of the Extras specials. This 90 minutes episode is full of "special guests" and it can be very slow to watch , I remeber watching it and thinking , this is slow. RG's character gets a rather bad run of luck and it looks all far fetched. In the end they try to wrap it up quickly and give a nice ending but without the effect of The Office ending ( which was much funnier ) For £13 this is a total rip off , you can buy the whole IT crowd series 1 which is a thousand times better and far less hipped. There are some good moments mainly due to Steven Marchant. 2 1/2 stars

Is what I was mentally shouting at this DVD from about ten minutes in. I continued with that mantra to the very end. I don't know why I persevered. It doesn't improve. It completely failed to draw me into the story right from the start and I left the room a few times without pausing, which is never a good sign. Simon Pegg's films just seem to get worse and worse. Shaun of the Dead was excellent, Hot Fuzz was similar but less funny, though it was saved by the action sequences, and Run Fat Boy Run is lame. The jokes are so unfunny and the acting is glib. It's boring and flat more than anything else. I suppose it kills time, but that's all it does. Its only saving grace is the nice setting in London where we can see landmarks ... Read More:

I fully enjoyed this series.It was very well written,and I really liked the story of Andy Millman,a man who dreams of hitting the big time,as a full time actor.However,he has a useless agent that can only get him extra work.What's so good about it,is the effort he puts in to try and get noticed.As always though,just when he thinks he's done it,a major disaster blows up in his face,instantly shattering his dreams.So,its back to square one as a lowly extra.Its good to see some major stars in the show,constantly being asked by Andy,desperate to get the big break.Its hilarious,and I fully recommend it!

The office was good, this isn't. Of course, with Stephen Merchant on writing duty, there are some funny moments (such as Keith Chegwin's homophobic rant), but there are many excruciating moments that I just couldn't watch. Character ineptitude, presented so exquisitely in the Office, has lost it's subtlety here. 2 stars because, for me, it's not worth wading through the pain and boredom for the few amusing moments. With so many other great comedies out there, this isn't worth iit.

Some people still don't get this. I'm amazed how many people still give me that perplexed glare when I compare the genius of `The Office' with that `Faulty Towers'. `The Office?' they say, as if their long-standing respect for my opinion is suddenly in jeopardy, `but why is it funny? It's just people in an office'. An worthy reflection and précis, no doubt! I'm increasing convinced that people just don't WANT to get it! People just don't want to give undivided attention, absorb every aspect, and conclude for themselves (.e., without the assistance of a studio audience or laughter track) precisely what is and is not funny. I found the first series of Ricky Gervais's "Extras" to be mildly amusing and clever,but certainly not as funny as "The Office".I thought that the series bore certain similarities to "I'm Alan Partridge" as well ; down on his luck middle aged man seeking his big break working alongside a slightly dysfunctional but loyal female.But again the "Partidge" series was much funnier and at times hilarious. Each of the six episodes of "Extras" are set on different film sites with each one featuring different guest stars,such as Les Dennis , Ben Stiller and Patrick Stewart. Gervais plays an extra alongside his friend and fellow extra Maggie,a Scottish wannabe maneater, and it is their relationship that is the highlight of "Extras" and what helps to makes it so entertaining. This is a brilliant, funny special from Christmas 2007, my player states it is 1080P but I can't find the DTS-HD sound only standard DD5.1, also had some playback issues on the Samsung BD-P1500, it would freeze my player after the Universal logo. Managed to get round this by pressing stop twice and then disc menu, I had the same problem on two discs. 5/5 for the comedy, 3/5 for the disc it's self the cover doesn't appear to be telling the truth.

If your a huge BeeGees fan like I am then this is the dvd for you! Great performances by Barry, Robin and Maurice. Their voices have never withered. Brings back lots of memories. There's also a little tribute to their late brother Andy. Highly recomended!

This was the most fantastic piece of television that I've seen in a long time. Hilariously funny, of course, but where I think Gervais, Merchant & co really excel is in the sense of sadness that comes through. Ashley Jensen, surely the most gifted comedienne to have emerged in recent years, is truly heart-breaking; effortlessly funny, but I was in tears watching her face the possibility that her dreams of becoming a 'proper actress' may never happen. By far the best thing that Merchant and Gervais have written - the way it bounces between comedy and tragedy is genius. A gem.

I watched this on TV and I was grateful not to have watched in the cinema. The plot is simple and has potencial for a good comedy but sadly apart from Thandie Newton there is very little else to admire in this film . From the tecnichal side of things , the running training , race etc is woeful and I hope no one takes it seriously ( ie overtake the top runners in a marathon after a few minutes ). 2 stars
