Breakfast On Pluto is a heart-warming, heart-string-tugging, intelligent and funny film.
Despite it being a bit slow in parts (the reason for which I didn't give it 5*s) it follows the life and happenings of Patrick 'Kitten' Brady, a loveable character portrayed by the even more loveable Cillian Murphy.
Who would ever have thought he could play a 'woman' so well!?!
4/5 stars; 9/10!

I really enjoyed this movie, which worked for me on several levels, or at least across several generations. I was there in the seventies listening to bands like Strange Fruit, and the film got the feel of those times right. Now I'm an old geezer like the band members, and the film got the feel of that right too. Connolly as roadie was a good choice, providing a salty anchor for the sometimes thin narrative.

One thing that seems 'off' about the way the film was promoted is the praise heaped on Mick Jones (Spooky Tooth, Foreigner) and Chris Difford (Squeeze) for the great music. Their names don't even appear in the IMDB listing for the film and I got the impression that the real force behind the music was Steve Donnelly, who is credited ... Read More:

That's what this film is. I say small only because the whole subject is small - a small suburban family's daily existence. But from the moment they open their front door to us, we are reminded how extraordinary normal everyday families can be. The tone is bitingly satirical as it sends up some of the odder urban steroetypes of modern times. Without giving away these superb characters, Spall and Horrocks are hysterical and worryingly good in their roles. The Horrocks character in particular is a gem and is the real centrepiece around which this brilliantly crafted film rotates. I haven't seen a sharper or more satirical movie about British family life than this. Leigh at his best.

This wasn't as bad as I expected...and I have such low expectations these days when I watch semi-creepy religious/satanic horror movies like this. I'm basically still recovering from the dross that was 'Stigmata'. The Reaping wasn't even close (thank the lord) and it did pass the time pleasantly enough.

Basically we have jaded ex-missionary Hilary Swank debunking her lil heart out 'cause she's narked off with God and doesn't believe in miracles anymore. Cue one major opportunity to go to some quaint uber-religious town tucked away in Louisiana to help try and debunk away why they seem to be besieged by the ancient biblical plagues of Egypt. Apparently they blame a scruffy little girl from a shunned family who practiced strange cult-y stuff and ... Read More:

What a terrifying and refreshing look at fairy tales which on all accounts seem so innocent. This film goes underneath the niceness and chips away to the horrid, scary dark truth about such stories as Little Red Riding Hood and Bluebeard, telling the stories in a trully haunting and surreal mannor. I first saw this film on my first year of university as we were studying fairytales and I decided to dig it out to watch it again - I was still equally scared. I love the message underlined in this film, it is not about actual creatures, more of male and female sexuality. I adore this masterpeice adapted from a fantastic writer, the late Angela Carter.

This film was so loosely based on the novel that it was a cheek to call it Tara Road...why didnt they call it House Swap, as that's all it was about, and most of that was inaccurately portrayed. Dreadful adaptation of what was an outstanding story.

Very good movie, enjoyed it. There's a Stephen King feel about this movie but not exactly. Unusual happenings in a bible belt town in the US brings an expert investigator who has always had scieniic explanations to the miracles she has investigated. However this time she has tough questions to answer. Enjoyed the ending too. Actors do a great job too. Surprised that I did not hear about this movie before. Only bought it as HD DVD's were going very cheap at present. I would have given it 4.5 or 5 stars for enjoyment, but gave 4 stars as there are other movies and classics like some academy winning movies, and this is a comparative rating.
Also the HD DVD picture quality is very good.

"Libera me, Domine, de vitae aeterna" - "Free me, Lord, from eternal life": If a movie begins with a choir and boy soprano singing these words, in a requiem's style and overlaying the camera's sweeping move over nightly San Francisco bay, zooming in on a Victorian building's top-floor window after having followed the life on the street below like a hunter follows its prey - if a movie begins like this, you know you're not looking at your average flick, whatever its subject. (And if the first thing you catch is the Latin phrase's grammatical mistake, this is probably not your kind of movie to begin with).

Much-discussed even before its release, due not least to Anne Rice's temporary withdrawal of support and her no less sensational subsequent 180-degree turn, ... Read More:

this film is pritty good, its not a oscor winner, but compared to most of his other films and most other film of this ilk (siegal, snipes sort of thing). i was expecting alot of gun fights, cheap cars blowing up, wooden performances and a cliche script. but no! this is the best van damme movie since Time Cop (legendary stuff) for this film features a story line, carector development and hell even acting. it even has a pritty good music score. Definately not worth the one star reviews some people give it, we reserve those for siegal movies and the likes of mortal kombat (oh and titanic... errgh)
