I recently saw two films directed by Norah Ephron. This one and Sleepless in Seattle (1993). Both have held up remarkably well. Curious to know the background (if any) to You've Got Mail, I did a little research. Its basic plot can be traced back to Nikolaus Laszlo's play The Shop Around the Corner which was adapted in a film of the same name directed by Ernest Lubitsch in 1940, co-starring Margaret Sullavan and James Stewart. Then in 1949, it was recycled as a musical (re-named In the Good Old Summertime) co-starring Judy Garland and Van Johnson. What we have here is the latest version of Laszlo's original story, brought to the screen again with Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan in the lead roles. In fact, Hanks and Ryan had appeared previously ... We all know the story of Chicken Little (Zach Braff), the poor little chicken who tried to warn the town that the sky was falling only to have it turn out to be an acorn. But what happened to him after the story ended? That's what this movie tells us.

Turns out that Chicken Little is in middle school. His exploits of a year ago are an embarrassment to his father, Buck Cluck (Garry Marshall). And the fact that there are commemorative plates and an upcoming movie based on the story haven't done much for the father/son relationship.

Despite Buck's constant pleas, Chicken Little is determined to prove his worth to his father. And, just as he's about to put the whole sky is falling nonsense behind him, it happens again. ... Read More:

A good cast, with Bale in the role of the "german" US Navy pilot, but the plot is boring: POW battered and underfeeded (with a live snake for breakfast ...), nazi-like guards, hostile jungle. The final is ridicolous, between the blue broters-like CIA "ghosts" and the cheers on the carrier. A true story ? Perhaps the reality is more ridicolous than fiction ....

is that i'd heard Brian Setzer (Rockabilly/swing/God) was going to be in this movie! My favourite guitarest does appear....but only in the music extras on the dvd. That's crimanal because the 'If you can't rock me' by the Brian Setzer Orchestra (and featuring Stuart Little bopping away to my idol) is absolutely classic 5 star stuff! Check out the music extras and you'll see what i'm talkin' about. Perhaps it was including in the American release? Anyway, Michael j. Fox is a hero of mine since 'Back to the future' and he does a great job bringing the voice of the little mouse to life. Out of the 3 Stuart Little movies, this is definately the best. I just wish they'd used 'If you can't rock me' in the end credits or something instead of Lou Bego's 'mambo part ... Read More:

A good ole submarine thriller. Crimson Tide is essentially about a US submarine in a state of readiness for a nuclear conflict with the USSR. When the vessel experiences a communication problem, it leaves the crew in a quandry about whether or not to actually unleash Armageddon.

This film is particularly notable for the great lead roles played by Gene Hackman and Denzel Washington. Both men are on the same side (the US military), yet are poles apart in terms of their backgrounds and style of leadership.

The stakes couldn't be higher ... and we're left to ponder if the human race now has so much capacity for war that a simple mistake could lead to World War 3.

The producers of Sahara might have done well to have considered how well the previous attempt to bring one of Clive Cussler's Dirk Pitt novels to the screen went before pouring a hundred or so million dollars into it even before Cussler launched an ill-fated lawsuit against the end product. While it's not as dull as Raise the Titanic, it didn't exactly set the box-office on fire let alone kickstart a new Indiana Jones-style franchise about the maritime treasure hunter that the studio so desperately wanted. It's not that hard to figure out why. Matthew "Naked Bongos" McConaughey and Penelope Cruz make for an unsurprisingly bland pair of leads, not helped by a plodding script that, after a terrific prologue in the American Civil War, pretty much traipses along with only a ... Well..... I watched this movie around 6 years back the first time and I enjoyed every bit of it. The songs in it take you back down memory lane when Rock n Roll was a craze... Not that it has lost its charm....When I bought this film on DVD it has been right it front of my DVD collection...

A must have.

Cheers

My 2yo loved Stuart Little I and II, but the second film contains the death of a very major character - the 'bad' falcon. The first film showed 'baddies' getting their come-uppance, but, in typical kids-film style, always made clear that they weren't really hurt, learned their lesson etc. The second film doesn't do this - the falcon falls from a very great height after a fatal collision, crashes out of sight inside a bin, and a hungry cat jumps up on the edge licking his lips!
After several viewings, my child picked up on this and got distressed.
Great films, full of humour and charm, but who really wants to explain death to a toddler?
