have seen this film more than a dozen times and it never stops to amaze me.. the perfect film combination of a history lesson, action/adventure, suspence and romance, cant believe that the oscars of its year missed it.. many great characters with most given relative depth, and a daniel day-lewis perfectly casted, establishing himself after winning the oscar for my left foot and showing of what is to come from him: in the name of.., gangs of ny, the crucible, there will be blood more recently.
A superb multi-layered story, hard and bloody at times but also soft and romantic.. one of the best music scores ever on film (!), visually stunning with breathtaking picture and cinematography, one of these films that makes u think "thats what ... Read More:

This has got to be one of the best movies I have ever watched, but is certainly a movie that requires and deserves to be watched by those who apreciate the fantastic story and acting. If you are looking for action movies don't look here, but if you like movies that are moving and deeply emotional then this might be a movie for you. I cried buckets at the end without the movie being predictable or "soppy" and best of all...it tells the story of real people and makes one think of those poor real characters. All acting was highly professional and to the highest standard in my oppinion, but Pryce was second to none. Highly recomended if you like myself like beautiful but deep movies.

This film has 3 parts. Part 1 very credible, very enjoyable. Part 2 not very plausible, but entertaining. Part 3 ridiculous action, plus ridiculous sentimentality.
HOWEVER, there is an array of excellent performances - with twitches of emotion - and eyes that show inner mind activity. Even those appearing briefly - like Jason's girlfriend - give their all. The facial close-ups show the turmoil and emotion within each character. Ray Winstone is excellent, so is Phil Davis (or Davies). Robert Carlyle's southern accent is just about acceptable, but he does well given his natural dialect.
The filming is very good. The music OK.
For Robert Carlyle fans, Looking after Jo Jo is better, made around the same time. It's plausible and gets across ... Read More:

Before she was engaging in who-can-wear-more-mascara contests with Johnny Depp, Keira Knightley was trapped in a bunker with Thora Birch and two guys for 18 days. I expected this to be a film about four teens trapped in an underground bunker trying to survive as days turn into weeks (two and a half to be exact), but that really isn't what The Hole is all about. That fact becomes obvious in the opening scene, as we watch a haggard survivor emerge and shuffle her way back to safety. Once she begins telling her story, I thought the rest of the movie would just be one big flashback leading us back to the present - wrong again. The plot to this film is much more dark and insidious as all that - and, while it's not problem-free, I think the film is all the ... Read More:

A Great film this. I've lent this to other friends and family members to watch and they loved it. It is very good - it would definitely be a great present for someone.

I just watched this movie, and the first minutes I was like omg what kinda of a low budget movie is this gonna be, but! From the moment Amled "goes insane" it is really good! I loved it, even though the scenery isn't wauw (But's Denmark so what should one expect)and the clothes isn't wauw and it't didn't exactly feel like it was happening in Denmark (I guess it's just because the scenery I usually look at is somewhat different)it's very enjoyable! With some great performences too, especially from young Bale, he's dazzling!! I was certaintly not dissapointed!! It's a great story by Saxo, more rauw than Hamlet, and though they are much alike, they are not the same, and they are great in each their way, but it is bit easier to imagaine that the story of Amled could ... When I first saw this on ITV a couple of years ago I was VERY disappointed, and thought maybe viewing it again on this R1 DVD would let me see it from a more objective view. But if anything it looks worse!!

Please note that this version, that was shown in the USA has HUGE edits from the one on ITV. Whole sections are cut, from the start, which I thought was one of the best bits, (with Boudica giving a blade to the water in ritual). The interesting idea of a love story between one of Boudica's daughters and a Roman soldier.....this doesn't even make an appearance in this version. It's been hacked apart, and lost some of the best parts in what was mostly a poor production.

I had high hopes of Alex Kingston in the role, she had ... Read More:

With all the finesse and depth of an after school movie we are treated to an Indiana Jones knock-off.

Archeologist/teacher Danny Freemont (Casper Van Dien) is in the process of finding the plack quadrants from the far corners of the earth.

Now here comes the Hallmark part. Danny loves Dr. Azelia Barakat (Leonor Varela), who loves Government ... Read More:

DVD : Tarzan and the Lost City [1998] (REGION 1) (NTSC)
On the plus side of the ledger for "Tarzan and the Lost City," the 1998 revival of the Tarzan character, is the fact that somewhere along the line screenwriters Baynard Johnson and J. Anderson Black actually read some of the original Edgar Rice Burroughs stories. This is because when this Tarzan (Casper Van Dien) is not in the jungle he really is John Clayton, Lord Greystroke, articulate, well read, and fluent in several languages. Of course, this time around his intended, Lady Jane Porter (Jane March), is English and not American, but consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds.

The film starts days before the wedding when way off in darkest Africa bad guy Nigel Ravens (Steven Waddington), stumbles upon the legendary lost city of Opar. This time around ... Read More:
