An old mod named Ben Dinsdale gave me this classic album in 1996 before we attended the Hyde Park concert in July of that year -- The Who play Quadrophenia for the Princes Trust Charity. This album has since become my favourite. It is the best Who album. It is perfect.

Steph: "Going to be one of the faces?"
Jimmy: "What do you mean going to be? I AM one of the faces!"

After a shag in an alleyway during a riot:
Steph : "It didnt mean anything Jimmy."
Jimmy : "It fu%%ing did to me" he screams as the heart is ripped from his chest and stomped on by Lesley Ash-- Troutmouth.

At the time of the release of their second double album rock opera Quadrophenia at the end of 1975, The ... Read More:

Really a great set of twin gangster movies!! Unlike American shoot'em ups, these two have more gangster attitudes and darkness to them than blood and gore! By watching both movies it is obvious that they were directed by the same Guy Ritchie which uses a similar style for both movies but with their own uniqueness.

Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels: More of a gangster movie than Snatch and there were more spectacular camera shots that caught my eye, such as the extreme close ups on the pupils of the eye and their contraction as a way of emphasizing the responses and thoughts of the characters. The plot tends to get more and more complicated as the movie progresses and then an unexpected ending that ends the whole movie and sort of ... Read More:

I love this film.
Fast - funny - pacy and full of great true to life characters - it is the closest thing to perfection.
It is right up there with Get Carter - Till Death Us Do Part and A Clockwork Orange.
The best thing to come out of British Cinema for more than 20 years - I would love a sequal.

Plenty, is the sad and terribly unconvincing story of English woman Susan Traherne's life during and after WWII. Entirely crafted by Fred Schepisi, from a play by David Hare, Plenty portrays Susan's life, from the dangers and excitements of Resistance fighter in France to the twenty or so following years of boredom, disillusion and bourgeois existence. Determined to change the world, Susan returns to England, only to face a vacuous society, far more concerned by coping with reality than to change it. Susan is supposed to have lived such an intense and meningful life (dangers, excitements, passionate love and worth-to-die-for feelings and gestures) during her Resistance years in France, that she has become unfit to reality. All very good, at least if ... Read More:

'Munchausen' is a truly great film. It's Terry Gilliam's finest film (debatable) and certainly - in terms of production - the most controversial.

The film - for those unfamiliar - tells the tall tale of the Baron attempting to save a beseiged city from the Turkish army and end a war he claims responsibility for. In order to do so, the aged Baron must quest to find his faithful servants whilst accompanied by Sally Salt - the child protagonist and main focus of the movie.

For 2 hours you are treated to a spectacularly lavish fantasy world from a trip to the moon in a balloon made of knickers, to the pit of a smouldering volcano, the belly of a whale and then to an amazing final battle in which everything, but death, can be finally ... Read More:

I remember watching this film as a child and being terrified and excited at the same time. If I wasn't absolutly certain a might actually have struggled to decide whether I'd dreamt the whole expeariance. Such is the nature of Baron Munchausen, It is a poetic and whimsical patchwork of frensied childhood dreams and nightmares, held together with fairy tale logic. Gilliam is the master of childlike imaginings mixing allagory, myths and his own pythonesc humour into and episodic adventure full of colourful characters, magical scenery and impossible special effects that no one these days would attempt without cgi.
There are plenty of special features on this disc which include an in-depth documentary on the making of the film and an audio commentary with ... Read More:

If you're looking for a movie to while away a dull couple of hours & want some "easy viewing" then look elesewhere.

However, if you a reminder of the bleakness of Britain in the early 80's then check this out. I was so taken with the photography & soundtrack that the plot & characters assumed a supporting role.

Look at how bleak (not to mention empty!)the A4 looks & also Bristol. This was very much the analogue age with cassette tapes, no mobile phones, service stations which were not self service, ....it's amazing.

Yep, this is Britain as it was....

This sultry movie set in Tyneside moves at a slow and gentle pace yet this only seems to add to the jazz atmospheric backdrop. I'm not a huge jazz fan but I couldn't help admiring the music score. Well worth a look - it depends on the mood you're in. Sean Bean is dependable as Brendan, but watch out for Sting who steals the limelight.
