British silent Comedy at it's best. You just couldn't imagine the amount of scrapes you can get into by merely transporting one plank from A to B

I have always liked Peter Davison's Doctor so to go back and see where it all began for him was certainly an interesting experience. Four To Doomsday is most definitely a mixed bag, but I found much to enjoy in this story, even if it did come in inconsistent bursts.

In terms of the look and feel of the episode, with a new Doctor and a new season, the BBC was obviously keen to impress and as a result we are treated to some very nicely designed sets. Four To Doomsday sees the show at its most Sci-Fi, ideas of technology and intelligence forming a crucial part of the story. But as nice as these elements are, certainly from the first part of this serial you get an overriding feeling that there's just ... Read More:

I had completely forgot about george & Mildred and how funny brian murphy was in it.
I decided to buy this cos im collecting all the classic British sitcom movie spin offs of the 70s just for nostalga .
Lets face it todays TV is pure crap.
It was so good to see the genius of yootha joyce & Brian murphy again after all these years.
George had allways made me laugh my head off when i was a young kid .
The things he will do to avoid spending money or avoid the sexual advances from his wife are hillarious.
Its funny to think that the little kid that played tristam must be what late 30s early 40s Amazing.
Good to see keneth cope who played in randall & hopkirk as well.
What can i say they just dont make ... Read More:

Although an old film, it'a an absoloute must. Laughed all the way through a genuine Julie Walters masterpiece. If you're a fan of hers buy it you won't regret it. Bit saucy so not for the faint hearted but not in a vulgar way. It just shows that Men are from Mars and Women are from Venus.

'Dance With A Stranger' is based on the true story of the last woman to be hanged in Britain. Mirander Richardson plays Ruth Ellis in this 'fairly' accurate story of the real-life drama.

Whilst not a huge fan of true stories being brought to the silver screen, this is interesting - if only for putting across very well how this woman should not have been executed. Whatever her morals and personality (whether you like or dislike her) it is blatantly clear that the only way to be rid of this troublesome young man (David Blakeley) was to kill him (from her perspective that is) If what we see we are to believe, this woman was 'plagued' by her one-time lover long after she'd tired of the affair and had told him as best she could (Blakeley being played by a young ... 'The Plank' is an absolute classic, funny, hilarious. I have watched it umpteen times and I still find myself lying on the floor, laughing my butts off when I watch it again. I like to show it to my students in English lesson to demonstrate 'British humour', and then I sit in my corner finding it ravingly funny. My (German) students are mostly mildly interested. 'The Plank' obviously is British humour that does not offer its virtues to German teenagers at once. At least I had an enjoyable lesson, ain't that important ? I am now ordering a new copy since my old one is wearing out.

DVD : The Lair of the White Worm (REGION 1) (NTSC) [1988]
It's hard to imagine in these days of stomach-turning gore and mega-violence, just how contentious and controversial Ken Russell films were, back in the day.
He's stated in interviews that all his films are comedies, and you can take him at his word on that, but critics just don't get it. He hit one with a rolled up newspaper on a tv show, which prompted the self-same critic (and renowned Russell-basher) to famously proclaim in print "Get me an elephant gun, this man must be stopped!"
It's easy to see why these people detest Russell. He's been goading them for decades. Taking money from the ever-so-worthy British film industry and making mad tragi-comic films about VERY serious and highbrow composers and artists, taking drugs, getting drunk, taking their clothes off and running ...
