There was a type of British comedy film which they were careful never to send over to the States. I suspect it was because in their hearts they knew that some time in the future Masterpiece Theater was going to do more for America's image of Britain than Churchill, the Tudors and Noel Coward would do rolled into one. And these comedies would make Masterpiece Theater unbelievable. These were comedies that were just as brash and broad as Coward's diction was clipped and upper class. They were comedies for the working class, and in Britain that could be a bad thing as well as a good thing.

Sometimes the condescension is overwhelming. The stars were household names in England. Most of them came from the music halls and often were equally ... Read More:

If you like listening to endless pieces of music and watching films with very little dialogue then this is the one for you, this has got them both in abundance!!

I don't recall hearing about it, but there must have been an international strike the year that this was made as this is the only reason why Nicholas Cage could have ever won an academy award for acting, he was dire in this film, proving yet again that he simply can not act in a serious film, they gave him very little to say, so they're obviously well aware of his acting ability (which is limited at best).

This film only serves to do two things, if you're an alcoholic and you keep on drinking then there's a chance that you'll drink yourself to death and second that if you're ... Read More:

James Spader brings an element of class to an otherwise derivative sci-fi.
It's not quite as B-movie as the title suggests, however, with a reasonably interesting story which rises above the expected B-movie excuses for bared flesh and gore..
Basically, as the plot progresses you realise are watching a remake of The Thing, as a bunch of ill equipped scientists discover a mysterious craft which unleashes something unexpected.. only then you realise it is in fact morphing into a remake of Predator, as you get the first person perspective of the alien stalking the scientists, only to discover you are watching a weird version of Outbreak, as a strange virus... oh, why bother, you get the idea.. At least it nicks ideas from the best.
Suffice to say, it does ... Read More:

The film is the story of the San Patricio Battalion. They were mostly Irish immigrants who deserted from the United States Army either just before or during the US - Mexican War of 1846 - 1848. They joined the Mexican army and fought against the United States. When finally captured they were either branded as deserters or hanged as traitors.

To the Americans they were traitors and best forgotten and to the Mexicans were Heroes. Sadly History has almost forgotten them.

This film attempts to tell the story of these men. It is marred by the "love" affair between Reilly and a Mexican woman, but if you ignore that angle it is quite a watchable film. I enjoyed it!

"Small Engine Repair" is an outstanding movie that just may steal your heart! The movie is not outstanding because it is full of lavish sets or lavish costumes or numerous special effects. Instead, it appears to be an interesting character study about a group of middle aged Irish men living out their simple lives in a very scenic Irish forest. It is outstanding because of the whole production, the talented cast, and the beautiful script!

These men, whose lives seem to rely in one way or another on the village mill, are still struggling with their lives and their relationships. You would think these men would have their lives all sorted out by by now but sometimes they act like little children. All of these men have very different personalities and problems, ... Read More:

I'm sorry but this is just rubbish. It's a really cheap and pointless production. There has been no real thought gone into it and there is nothing original or insightful regarding the tragedy that is MacBeth.

Here are some problems:
1) The character of MacBeth - Connery's portrayal of MacBeth lacks nuance or emotion, it is in fact the dullest portrayal of the central character I have yet seen. Finch's MacBeth (from Polanksi's production) emphasizes that MacBeth has a conscience and was a great man who met a sordid downfall on account of making a fateful decision (to kill the King), Finche's is a nuanced interpretation his tyranny as much a product of need to control as it is a manifestation of insane power lust; Welles's MacBeth is more or less devoid of conscience ... The plot to this film is fairly limited. Acting isnt great and the female feature is by no means a supermodel. However its a great lads film as it consists mainly of 2 giant robots piloted by 'Jox' fighting each other to the death. Brilliant to watch with a group of lads but watch it with the missus and I dont imagine you'll be seeing any action for a while

King Lear
The dark and brooding world inhabited by Lear and his three daughters must rank as one of the world's greatest works of invention in the Shakespearean canon. Blessed is magnificent in the title role in this powerful new cinema version of the bard's great tragic work.
