Here we have it - the first of the classic "Dallas" DVD sets!

The series that originally started out as a TV mini-series (the first 5 episodes on this package now re-titled as 'Season 1') and eventually was responsible for coining the term 'Soap' as a blueprint for a number of imitations to come.

This groundbreaking, award-winning ratings-grabber told the story of the oil rich Ewing family, and focused on the trials and tribulations of their everyday lives of power, wealth, love, greed, lust, and ambition. There are some wonderfully-written character portrayals and story lines that unfold in these early episodes which primarily centred around the events of youngest Ewing sibling, Bobby and his new bride, Pamela. This film is unusual - it succeeds in being both romantic and extremely erotic. Its also a very enjoyable film for both women and men -for women because unusually the man is much younger than the woman; and what man could fail to find Susan Sarandon extremely easy on the eye. A cynical part of me always says at the end of the film "I give them six months till the novelty of the sex wears off and he leaves"; but still it remains a totally watchable film with a classic line by Susan Sarandon when she opens the door to the eager James Spader - simply "I'm 43". So what Susan, go for it!

This is the first film that my son and I ever watched together and we both cried during some scenes. I bought the DVD having read the book and the film didn't disappoint at all.

The story is about an only child who grows up as a loner. He finds a friend in Skip his little dog and the story is all about their life together.

This is a real tear jerker and no matter how many times I watch it, I always cry! It reminds me of my own childhood experiences with my own dogs.

DVD : Rabid [1977]
Even after more than 30 years, rabid works as an effective horror film, and it clearly shows Cronenberg's talent for horror without horror cliches. The low budget shows in many scenes, but it is saved by the acting, even in the small supporting roles. Marilyn Chambers is especially good in the lead.

I would have rated this film 4 or even 5 stars, but I can not give more than 3 stars, due to the transfer. It is not bad. It is very, very bad. The picture looks like a grainy VHS transfer from another century, and for the most time, parts of the image are missing: you only see half a face of an actor who is talking, or heads or feet are cut off at the top and bottom. Do not get me wrong, this is a 1:1.78 anamorphic transfer, so the only explanation ... Read More:

.......spoilers.......

I saw this when it first came out in England. I wasn't very keen but I had nothing else on that night and fancied a movie and I liked musicals so I was hoping it'd be tolerable at least in spite of the uninteresting-sounding theme. I went to the early evening performance. I wasn't too impressed by the "band" titles and the very first scene and decided I certainly wasn't going to like it very much, especially not this spiv, who wasn't at all my type of guy, not at all what I thought of as handsome at my age then, clearly too old a main character for me, in a weird train somewhere in middle America (I assumed) singing about playing dirty tricks on well meaning customers. Boys' Bands? What did I care about Boys' Bands? But then he got out of the train ... Read More:

Having known a lady who was in Kenya from 1943 (3 years after the events on which this film is based) and having an English wife born in British East Africa a dozen years later, White Mischief was of huge interest to me quite apart from its intrinsic merit.

Jock Delves-Broughton (Joss Ackland) is in financial trouble and has left 1940 England with creditors pressing (not surprising: he spent up to £120,000 annually, equivalent to perhaps £5 million or even £10 million today!). He buys a place near Nairobi and settles with his much younger and very beautiful (especially but not only when unclothed) wife Diana (Greta Scacchi). She has been "bought" by him in return for an allowance of £80,000 annually, for 7 years. She, however, falls in love with the dissolute local landowner ... Read More:
